#6 GROH UPSETS #1 GREFER IN TOURNAMENT FINALS THRILLER………..
GROH 5 GREFER 4
reported by KEN GROH……….
It was one for the ages as GROH sweated out a 5-4 upset victory over the #1 seeded GREFER……
The victors earned the tournament title by defeating the #3, #2 and #1 seeds…….
The game started with GREFER jumping to a quick 3-0 lead in the opening frame, but GROH
chipped away in the third inning by getting two runs in as PATRICK FELDMAN doubled to drive in
both sub TANNER HARRIS and TYLER STANSBURY…..
In the fourth inning, TODD WASSERMAN drove in NICK DEPIANO to tie the game at 3-3 and in
the following inning, an ADAM CRONSTEIN double, FELDMAN triple and a single by RYAN
SMALL gave GROH a 5-3 lead…….
However, the defense was the name of the game as DAVID WEIL, JERRY KIRZNER, JAMES
SWAN, SMALL, WASSERMAN, STANSBURY, FELDMAN and CRONSTEIN all made great
plays, but the key play was a DEPIANO grab of a smash off the bat of JEFF FINKELSTEIN in the
outfield that could very well have been a two run home run……
The lead was 5-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when things got tense….
GRIFF HARRIS tripled and DAN GREFER drove him in to make it 5-4….they loaded the bases with
one out only to have GROH get out the jam by getting the last two hitters, the last on a pop-up to 2B
KIRZNER, playing in his 44th season…..
QUOTES POST GAME…….
“What championship game. I love this game!”………GROH
“The most laid back and positive team I’ve been a part of. We never got down.”…..GROH
“I’m going to be the winningest player ever.”……..TANNER HARRIS
Another season is done and what a season it was……..
