LEFTON 12 SOLOMON 10 (8 INNINGS)
In a game that went down to the wire, LEFTON found a way to win as they scored two runs in the
top of the 8th inning and withstood a rally in the bottom of the inning to produce the victory….
A total team effort for sure, but The BIG hit came off the bat of ALEX LEFTON as he hit a two-run
double to drive in the winning runs…..
The decisive inning started with MIKE KAHAN walking, going to second base on a long fly out by
MIKE ROTHSTEIN and an intentional walk to JIMMY LEFTON…..that set the stage for the younger
LEFTON who drilled a double to RCF to plate the runs….
In the bottom of the inning, SOLOMON got the tying runs on base, but couldn’t produce a hit to tie or
perhaps win the game…..
Other contributors were DAVID “LITTLE JAVY” WERTHEIM with a triple and home run and
played a flawless 3B……DAVID SOLOMON came out of his slump with a huge two out two run
single…..SUB JACK COHEN had a home run and played a solid LCF……AARON KAPLAN got two
key walks…..ROTHSTEIN and BRAD GALLOP, back from vacation, each had hits as well…..
EDDIE GALLOP had a nice game at 1B as did KAHAN in LF, making a nice running catch early in
the game…..RICK LEFTON, who got hurt at the end of the game (NO WORD AT PRESS TIME),
got a key hit, ROGER ROSENTHAL, still in a prolonged hitting slump, did make the final
putout on a close force play at 2B and finally, JIMMY LEFTON pitched in and out of jams a lot, but
got the key out when needed…..
Second to report in………
by MARC BRAFMAN
BRAFMAN 13 GROH 7
After being down 6-0 in the top of the first inning, the victors roared back to score nine in the bottom
of the inning……the two big blows were by JOEL “THE WRATH OF” KAHN with a two run double
and JEREMY “HAMILTON” FOGEL with a three run home run that put them up for good….other
big hits were provided by sub DANNY GREFER, BEN “B-ROD” RODRIGUEZ, JEREMY “WE’VE
GOT THE MEATS” CANTOR and sub GARY “THE KID” ASKIN……
“I’ve been robbed so many times this year, I was happy that I finally got a hold of one”, a happy
FOGEL said afterwards. “Plus my mom was at the game and I always want to play well in front of
her.”
DAVE “THE MINISTER OF FUN” COHEN who once again had a couple of hits said this about sub
ASKIN, “I thought that since I announced my retirement similar to BARBARA STREISAND in
2016 that I would be the best of the older guys on this team, but seeing GARY come off the couch
and play as well as he did, it’ll inspire me to keep going for another ten years similar to BABS.”
On the defensive side, RILEY “THE BIG MAN” ABLE, B-ROD, CANTOR and MARC BRAFMAN
all made plays including a 6-4-3 double play and a throw out from ASKIN TO BRAFMAN, however
the PLAY OF THE GAME was JASON “THE MAD HUNGARIAN” FAUST fielding a bunt off the
bat of speedy JAMES SWAN and throwing him out at first base to end an inning……
FAUST continued his outstanding pitching as he surrendered but one run after the opening frame.
“It’s taking me all season, but I’ve finally figured out what I need to do…..stop thinking and just pitch
because me thinking only hurts the ball club”, he stated afterwards.
ON A SIDE NOTE….. the team (and the league) would like to wish LEON “THE BULL”
SESERMAN a speedy recovery from a concussion suffered in last week’s game.
When reached for a comment, SESERMAN went out of his way to thank his roommate TAYLOR
SCHWARTZ for nursing him back to health.
“With my mom in Colorado, TAYLOR has brought me all my meals in bed, he’s even cut the crust off
the PB&J just how I like it and made sure to taste my soup to make sure it’s not too hot. My head
can’t handle hot things at the moment.”………….HOW SWEET!!!!!!!!!(EDITOR’S NOTE)
next to report in…….
by GREGG HARRIS
HIUDT carried out the motto “Defense wins championships” in full force as they played virtually an
error free game behind the strong pitching from JAMIE KIRTZER, who held LEADER to but four
runs……the infield turned two double plays with a strong defensive performance from 3B GREGG
HARRIS….DANIEL HIUDT ran down some fly balls in the outfield as did COREY NORRIS and
sub JEFF FINKELSTEIN and BRUCE YOUNGER made a tremendous clutch catch in RF…..
RICK TENNEHOLTZ, OREN SCHMOEL and PHIL GANSON also had solid performances in the
field….
Offensively, MIKE “THE BADGER” MARGOLIS once again shocked a a shallow outfield by hitting
a shot of deep LF for a triple….DANIEL HIUDT continued his hot hitting….
Sub JACOB KOTZIN (Scott’s son) did a fantastic job filling the large shoes left by JEFF
WEISBROT, who is out with a season ending injury…..he shot one to deep CF and played a solid
SS…..
The never say die attitude, in spite of injuries to captain ZAC HIUDT and WEISBROT, has kept
them in close running for a decent playoff run….
“If we play this tight in the field, our possibilities are limitless. The team is still awaiting for the
slumping and sleeping beat from me to wake up to match my offensive prowess from my first two
years in the league,” HARRIS said afterwards.
