RECAPS FOR GAMES ON AUGUST 1…….
first one reported in…….
by ROGER ROSENTHAL assisted by KEN GROH
LEFTON 12 GROH 11 (8 INNINGS)
In one of the more exciting games of the season, TEAM LEFTON outlasted TEAM GROH and it
took an extra frame to get it done…..
In a game that saw GROH take an early lead, LEFTON come back to take a one run
lead into the top of the 7th inning, GROH tied it and LEFTON had a golden opportunity to win it in
walk off fashion only to come up short and the game went to extra innings….
GROH scored one run in the top of the 8th and could have scored more, but left the bases loaded as
starter MIKE ROTHSTEIN ran out of gas only to have JIMMY LEFTON come in and get the final
out on three pitches……and the win to boot!!!!!!
To the bottom of the 8th inning, DAVID SOLOMON got on first on an infield single, ROGER
ROSENTHAL got hit on a 99 mph KEN GROH fastball, only to have rookie AARON KAPLAN hit
into a 5-3 double play, however with DAVID WERTHHEIM representing the winning run at the
plate, GROH elected to walk him to get to MIKE KAHAN…..he hit a high fly ball to RCF that found
the ground and ROSENTHAL and WERTHEIM scored for the walk off victory…..
The game ball deservedly went to KAPLAN, who came up with a huge double and made two nice
catches in RF……KUDOS TO YOU!!!!!!!
Defensively, ALEX LEFTON made a great catch in RCF to cut a rally short….JACK COHEN made a
nice catch on a ball hit in the gap in LCF, but the play of the game was from old-timer
ROSENTHAL, who once again got down and dirty by diving for a ball to his left at 2B and on his
butt, throwing out the baserunner…..
TEAM GROH was led by JAMES SWANN, playing in front of his girlfriend, with four hits and four
runs scored in what is the true meaning of a lead off batter…..TYLER STANSBURY played a solid
SS and made some great plays while going 2 for 2 with two triples and grudgingly took two
intentional walks…..and finally, RYAN BAUM, who went 2 for 3 with a triple…….

by MARC BRAFMAN
BRAFMAN 13 LEADER 8
Behind the “living legend” HOWIE SCHWARTZ, who was subbing for the first time (I think),
TEAM BRAFMAN got back on the winning trail with a 13-8 victory over TEAM
LEADER….subbing for JASON “THE MAD HUNGARIAN”, SCHWARTZ finally got a win though
it was not with his own team…..
“I think I speak for all the guys on the team when I say it was a lot of fun to play behind HOWIE,
said DAVE “THE MINISTER OF FUN” COHEN.
He added, ” He’s an inspiration to the rest of us as being as good as he is at age 70. I hope I continue
my Ozzie Osborn-like retirement tour for another few years to reach 70 to play as well as him.”
Now to the game……
Offensively, two unlikely guys led the way……..ERIC “THE MOUTH OF THE MIDWEST” GRUEN
hit a three run home run and sub SAM “HANDSOME” CASTELINNI and BRAFMAN had
triples….RILEY “THE BIG MAN” ABLE, JOEL “THE WRATH OF” KAHN and SCHWARTZ all
had multiple hits as well…….
GRUEN said afterwards, “I’ve been watching LEON (SESERMAN) hit balls hard all year. I just
hope I can continue to match his hard smashes.”
Defensively, BRAFMAN was solid again……led by the tag team combo of JEREMY “HAMILTON”
FOGEL, who continues to shine in LCF and Rookie Of The Year candidate LEON “THE BULL”
SESERMAN, their defense kept LEADER off the board……a huge play was a 5-4 turned in by
“THE BULL” and GRUEN while FOGEL ran down numerous balls all night.
BRAFMAN said, “JEREMY should have the gold glove named after him.”
A special shout out to MIKE “FLASH” CREEMER who gutted out the last four innings on a bad
hamstring and had a beauty of a bunt, “We all wish he could teach the real BILLY HAMILTON how
to bunt,” said BRAFMAN later.
One other note of interest….BRAFMAN would like to invite the rest of the league to watch a special
team post race as FAUST has challenged the entire team to a 40 yard dash to prove his is NOT one of
the slowest guys on the team……
