In action last night…….
TEAM SCHWARTZ defeated previously undefeated TEAM WEISSER, 10-7, in a game that see
sawed back and forth……
TEAM WEISSER trailed 2-1 early in the game, however plated four runs to grab a 5-2 lead only to
have TEAM SCHWARTZ tie it at 5-5…….
With a precarious lead of 8-7 in the top of the sixth inning, the victors were able to escape a bases
loaded one out situation when captain HOWARD SCHWARTZ got a tough hitter in TAYLOR
SCHWARTZ to pop up to SS MIKE ROTHSTEIN and ended the threat by getting COREY
SCHWARTZ on a force out……
TEAM SCHWARTZ scored two runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to a two run bases loaded
single by PETE “XAVIER HALL OF FAME” SPOERL to produce the final margin……
The entire team contributed as SCHWARTZ came up with a huge two run double…..DAVID
SOLOMON got a key hit and was once again excellent behind the plate……JERRY KIRZNER played
a steady field again……ALAN LESSURE had a key sacrifice bunt…..ROGER ROSENTHAL went
two for two had made a nice catch at 2B…..ROTHSTEIN played well at SS and had two hits and a
walk……SPOERL continued his hot hitting……DAVID WERTHEIM played an excellent LF and got a
couple of key base knocks…..ZACK SWADNER had two hits…..COREY NORRIS had two hits and
finally RYAN SMALL had a big hit and made two really nice catches in RF…….
In other action…..
TEAM GROH got back on the winning trail by knocking off TEAM GREFER, 15-4, as the entire
team played for the first time this season…..
According to captain KEN GROH, every player had at least one hit and the team had eight
walks…..Leading the way was BEN BARNETT with a three run home run that capped a five run
opening inning…..TEAM GREFER came back with five consecutive hits as JEFF WEISBROT and
DANNY GREFER each had two run hits, however great defense stymied the comeback as LF
SCOTT FRIEND made an amazing catch and SS DAN GILBERT, the pride of Wyoming High
School, just missed turning a triple play…..3B BRAD WAGNER and LCF AARON LINN also were
solid…..
After the game, GROH commented, “We’re looking forward to playing an undefeated TEAM
LEFTON next week to gauge where we stand in the battle for the 1st half title.”
In one wild game, TEAM LEFTON defeated TEAM BRAFMAN, 13-12, in a battle of two
undefeated teams…….It may go down as one of the most amazing comebacks in JCC softball
history……
MARC BRAFMAN reports….
Trailing 11-2 with two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the fifth inning, the victors put
together an 11 run outburst without the benefit of a walk or error….
Afterwards, losing pitcher STEVE “THE AQUAMAN ” EPPSTEIN commented, “I’ve never seen
anything like this. No matter what I tossed up there they hit and found a hole.”
GREG “GIG” FRANKLIN of the winning side said, “You know in the 60’s I tried to date Brafman’s
mom at Woodward High School and while she never gave me a kiss, beating her son was almost as
sweet.”
Even in defeat, the WOLF brothers continued their stellar play as both TYLER and WESTON had
multi hit games and played a very good infield…..meanwhile, GREGG “THE HAMMER” HARRIS
had a good game at the plate and in the field………
BRAFMAN stated afterwards, “It hurts to lose a game like this, but the thing I like about our team is
we’ll shake this off and come back next week ready to go.”
He added, “As the great coach DICK NICKELSON once said, “This is a very simple game, you
throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose,
sometimes it rains. I couldn’t say it better than that.”
