Other highlights from last night’s Opening Night…..

JOEL FOGEL is back at being a captain and his team came away with a walk-off victory over TEAM WEISSER when DAN GLASSMAN hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly…….STEVE EPPSTEIN, 30+ pounds lighter, pitched masterfully, but the Player of the Game was rookie phenom TYLER STANSBURY who belted two home runs, one of which EPPSTEIN said was the longest he’s ever seen in his loooooooooong career……other standouts were JEREMY FOGEL, son of JOEL FOGEL, with three hits and SCOTT BERGE’S solid defense in LF…..

Opening Night started with a bang as there were thrillers and there were laughers (at least for the winning teams)….

RON ROSE returned as a captain in a winning way as his team scored nine runs in the top of the first inning to cruise to a victory over TEAM WEISBROT……behind the pitching of KEN GROH, the entire team contributed offensively…..RANDY BROYLES, the lone newcomer to the league on the team, made an immediate impact by playing a solid 3B and getting some hits…..special kudos go out to RYAN SILVERMAN, MICHAEL ASKIN and ZACH SWADNER, who all had multiple hit games……

In other action, a thriller between TEAM GUTTMAN and TEAM LEFTON, started like it was going to end early as TEAM GUTTMAN built up a 10-0 lead, only to have TEAM LEFTON come back to make it 10-9 and had the tying run on 3B with one out in the top of the 7th inning, but that’s when JASON “BIG HAUS” FAUST got the next two batters and ended it by getting JIMMY LEFTON to softly line out to NORM FRANKEL at 3B……FAUST, in true fashion, threw his glove from the mound on field # 2 to the mound of field # 3 in celebration……key hits for the victors came from K-STREET CREW, JERRY and RYAN KIRZNER, STORMIN’ NORM FRANKEL, BENRIGUEZ and FUNKY FINK FINKELSTEIN….

ALEX LEFTON, CORY NORRIS and MATT STEINBERG had key hits for TEAM LEFTON……..

Afterwards. TEAM LEFTON captain RICK LEFTON stated, “we fought back and almost stole victory from the jaws of defeat. looking for good things from this team in 2015.”

TEAM LEADER defeated TEAM HIUDT, 14-9, as an eight run 5th inning proved to be the difference….JAMIE KURTZER notched the victory over BARRY “WAIT I’M NOT PITCHING FOR TEAM LEADER” KAPLAN as both pitchers each had only one walk……the game ball went to rookie DAVID “JUMBO” WERTHEIM, who went 2 for 3 and played a flawless 2B….
