ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!!!

*TEAM SCHWARTZ continued their dominating ways by defeating a depleted TEAM WEISBROT team in a continuation game from the first half and then the regularly scheduled second half game…..defense and timely hitting paved the way for the victors….kudos go to ALAN LESSURE, who replaced RON ROSE, the CAL RIPKEN of the JCC league, behind the plate , BOB BONNER at third base and Super Sub MATT STEINBERG at shortstop……ALAN COHEN had several clutch hits and son JACK COHEN did his SCOTT WOLF impresson with some great base running…..as for TEAM WEISBROT, they will try to snap out of their losing ways next week in a “key” game vs TEAM WAGNER……a game to be aired on ESPN U with GUS JOHNSON and BILL RAFTERY doing the broadcast…….

**TEAM GREFER defeated TEAM GUTTMAN, 6-4, as sub JAMIE KIRTZER pitched a gem and the defense was solid……GARY GREFER and DANNY GREFER had key hits, but the play of the game was when DANNY GREFER turned a double play off the bat of BRANDON GUTTMAN with the bases loaded to end the game…….

***TEAM LEADER was on the front end of the scoreboard again as they posted a 13-3 win over the slump-riden TEAM CRONSTEIN……BARRY KAPLAN was in complete control as his fastball was clocked at 97 mph and the defense was solid…..ANTON LOOOOOOOOON was 2 for 3 with three runs scored, captain GREG “THE SPIDERMAN” LEADER was 2 for 4 with three runs scored and SCOTT BERGE was 3 for 3 with two runs scored……

GET WELL WISHES GO OUT TO RON ROSE, WHO HAD MINOR SURGERY AND WAS HELD OUT OF ACTION LAST NIGHT……

FYI…….Rumor has it that ROGER ROSENTHAL actually shook hands after NOT one, but two games…….at presstime, ROGER’S HOT CORNER was still investigating the rumor…….

ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!!!

CONGRATS TO TEAM SCHWARTZ…….WINNER OF THE SECOND HALF!!!!!!

*TEAM SCHWARTZ defeated TEAM CRONSTEIN with solid defense and clutch hitting…..the biggest hit came off the bat of ALAN LESSURE with a bases loaded clearing double over the left fielder’s head….RON ROSE, the ageless wonder, was on base each time at bat…….other key hits were provided by ALLEN COHEN, BOB BONNER and MARK NEWMAN……

**Reported in by losing captain BRAD WAGNER…..TEAM ROTHSTEIN continued their winning ways with a narrow 5-4 victory over TEAM WAGNER…….veteran pitcher STEVE “MR. CHICKEN WINGS” EPPSTEIN recorded the victory as former Xavier star baseballer PETE SPOERL, MIKE KADETZ, MIKE ROTHSTEIN and STU SOLOMON provided key hits for the winners, while DOUG SANDOR, MITCH EVANS and ROTHSTEIN keyed the defense…..TEAM WAGNER fell short twice on comebacks late in the game…..surprise started WILLY WAXLER, called up earlier in the day from AA Pensecola, kept his team in it throughout, but they just couldn’t complete the comeback……WAGNER had a two-run homerun and sacrifice fly to spark the offense……next week, TEAM ROTHSTEIN battles TEAM LEFTON in a completion from the first half and the second half regularly scheduled game with both games to be aired on Fox Sports West, while TEAM WAGNER gets the week off in preparations for a “key” showdown with TEAM WEISBROT, however some members of the team will be subbing for other teams next week……

***TEAM GUTTMAN got back to their winning ways with a victory over TEAM LEFTON as JOEL ELLISON hit his first homerun of the season and RON “THE ROCKET” NASSIF and TODD WASSERMAN had key hits for the victors…….captain BRANDON GUTTMAN has a shout out to MARK LEVINE for subbing……..

Cub Reporter BRAD WAGNER reports in as well about some trash talking that occurred at a West Side establishment last night between TEAM GUTTMAN player and former Reading High School football/basketball great, JEFF NASH (NO relation to STEVE or RICK) that TEAM GUTTMAN will NOT lose three times to TEAM ROTHSTEIN if it presents itself in the post-season tournament…..another captain who was present and will remain nameless…….hmmmmm……..said there’s a good chance of three teams receiving trophies at the end of the year banquet……STAY TUNED!!!!!!

ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!!!!

FIRST PIECE OF BUSINESS……..THIS BLOGGER WANTS TO APOLOGIZE FOR NOT REPORTING FOR THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS…….I GET PAID “GOOD” MONEY FOR THIS GIG (NOT YOUR MR. FRANKLIN) AND NEED TO KEEP UP WITH THE GOING ONS IN THE JCC SOFTBALL LEAGUE……

*First team to report in was TEAM LEADER captain GREG “SPIDERMAN” LEADER as his team won a thrilling game, 11-9, in eight innings over TEAM WEISBROT……trailing by two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, TEAM WEISBROT got the bottom three in the line-up, ROGER “ROGZILLA” ROSENTHAL, DAVID “I LOVE DUSTY BAKER” WEIL and TEDDY “BALLGAME” KANTER, on base with the top of the order coming up. They plated just two runs and TEAM LEADER took advantage of that by scoring twice in the top of the 8th inning when MICHAEL “BUCKY” MARGOLIS “stole” home on a botched play and later BRIAN MONK scored an insurance run a base knock from LEADER…..MONK was 4 for 5 as was LEADER, but the game ball went to MARGOLIS, going 2 for 4 plus making a nice catch in rightfield that prevented the winning run to score…..
ZAC HIUDT injured his hamstring and had to leave the game and is doubtful for next week…….here’s to a BIG GET WELL FAST!!!!!!
And while speaking of HIUDT, CONGRATS on the news that he’ll become a father……aren’t there enough HIUDT’S already?????……..just kidding!!!!!!
The BIG stink came after the game when each player from TEAM LEADER came over to the TEAM WEISBROT bench to confront a certain blogger, with a BIG mouth, with the initials RNR and is a huge XAVIER fan, refused to shake hands with the winners out on the field……words were said and the Turtle Creek security had to be called in to break up a possible riot……the JCC COMMISION is looking into video that was taken by MIKE CREEMER to review the situation to see if fines and/or suspensions will be dished out……
**TEAM WAGNER came out with vengeance as they routed TEAM CRONSTEIN, 18-8. Captain BRAD WAGNER gave the politically correct response afterwards saying it was a total team effort…..extra kudos to MARK BLOOM, who played well in right field….kudos also to MIKE SMALL, who played a solid defense for TEAM CRONSTEIN…..WAGNER noted that a round of applause is in order for the pitchers and catchers, which included STU WEINSTEIN, MARK WEISSER, DAN CRONSTEIN, GARY ASKIN and DAN STEINBERG, who braved the hot tempatures….TEAM WAGNER battles TEAM ROTHSTEIN next week in a game that can be heard on WEBN with WILDMAN WALKER making a surprise visit to do play by play, while TEAM CRONSTEIN takes on the hottest team in the league, TEAM SCHWARTZ on KMOX with MIKE SHANNON providing the color……it should be noted that it’ll be RON ROSE BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT……first 50 fans will receive a bobblehead and as an added bonus…….a 8 x 10 color photo of HOWARD SCHWARTZ, who has agreed to stay after the game to sign autographs at NO charge……

***TEAM SCHWARTZ continued their HOT ways in destroying TEAM GUTTMAN, 13-3, in a shortened game…..the battle for first place for the second half and best overall seed, was decided early when the victors jumped out with five runs in the first inning…..the victory was fueled by the WOLF BROTHERS, DUFFY and SCOTT…..DUFFY had a great catch in the outfield and hit a homerun, while SCOTT had timely hitting and as usual fearless baserunning…….BOB BONNER came thru with some web gems as well as some big hits as did ZACK SWADNER….ALAN LESSURE had a key hit and finally JOSH LISMAN was solid in the field……

****TEAM ROTHSTEIN defeated TEAM GREFER, 14-7, as STU SOLOMON and MICHAEL ROTHSTEIN combined for nine of the 14 runs, while DOUG SANDOR had his usual key hits and JORDAN EVANS was a key to the offense in the top spot in the batting order….LEV “THE RUSSIAN” ORLOV played well in right field and COREY NORRIS did a nice job behind the plate in his first career start as a catcher…..captain ROTHSTEIN pointed out that TEAM GREFER never gave up and mounted a nice comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning only to come up short…..MARK “TEXAS” WEINGARTEN had a homerun in the inning……

Speaking of the Indiana graduate, WEINGARTEN reportedly hurt himself in a basketball game and may miss a few games……..GET WELL HOOSIER!!!!
