GAME RECAPS FROM APRIL 11

Under sunny skies and cool temperatures the 2018 season got underway……

It looked for a bit, parking was going to be a problem at the fields as the parking lots were being

paved, but after a while, cars were allowed to be parked…..I wonder if games have ever been

canceled due to parking issues??????

GAME RECAPS…..

from Field #1…….BRAFMAN 17……GROH 7……

from KEN GROH…..

TYLER STANSBURY hit a third inning grand slam to pace the offense and DAVID WEIL, RYAN

BAUM and GROH had two hits each, but by hitting into several double plays, the offense never got

into gear.

On the defensive side, JERRY KIRZNER had the play of the game with a great catch at 2B.

“We were working out the kinks and in the process were taken to the woodshed, however I’m excited

for the potential with this team and am looking forward to the remainder of the season.”

from MARC BRAFMAN……

“We battled the sun, some suspect umpiring (fine?) and TEAM GROH and prevailed over all three.

I’m proud of how we opened the season. Everyone contributed either in the field or at the plate and

down the line-up made some big plays on defense and outlasted a very good GROH team”

The offense was paced by rookie LEON “THE BULL” SESERMAN who went 4 for 4, fellow rookie

RILEY ABLE, JOEL “THE WRATH” KAHN each with two base knocks and finally, BEN “B-ROD”

RODRIGUEZ, who got the game ball with a bases loaded clearing double in the sixth inning…

B-ROD said afterwards, “I was just trying to get on base and help the team. I had no idea what the

scored was or what inning we were in. I just go up and hit.”

Not to be overlooked was the defense of JEREMY FOGEL, AARON COMPTON, sub DAVID

“DEE” HARRIS and MIKE CREEMER, who had the task of trying to keep pitcher JASON “THE

MAD HUNGARIAN” FAUST focused……EDITORS NOTE…….GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!

FAUST making his return to the league after a couple of years pitching in AAA for the COLUMBUS

CLIPPERS had this to  say afterwards, “Pitching is 80% of the game and the other “half” is hitting

and fielding”.

GAME REPORTS APRIL 11 Part 2

OTHER RECAPS…….

field #2……LEFTON……22………SOLOMON…….17……

from ROGER ROSENTHAL……

The odds of coming back from a 10-0 fist inning defecit and MIKE ROTHSTEIN throwing four

innings of one unearned run ball and being the winning pitcher had to be pretty high odds in Las

Vegas…..it happened…..

After falling behind 10-0 in the top of the first inning and almost letting the game get out of control,

LEFTON rallied back to eventually take a 22-16 lead after five innings and went onto victory…..

It was a total team effort as everyone contributed in one form or another, however, MICHAEL

KAHAN drilled two homeruns to lead the offensive charge….SCOTT BERGE played a solid SS for

the injured ROTHSTEIN,  DAVID “NEVER TAKE A WALK” WERTHEIM threw a would be run

out at the plate and ROGER ROSENTHAL played a stellar 3B…….also of note, rookie BRAD

GALLOP, son of EDDIE, collected his first hit on a perfect bunt and then promptly stop 2B with a

head first slide….

field #4……SCHWARTZ……..17………WEISSER………..7…..

from HOWARD SCHWARTZ…….

After a very slow start, SCHWARTZ rallied back for the win as rookie SAM CASTELLINI got his

first hit in the “big leagues” and returning players MIKE KADETZ and RANDY SANDOW each had

major contributions…..also of note, outfielder HARRY MOISTER made a great running catch of a

deep fly ball…..
