GAME REPORTS…….WEEK #2……
FIRST to report in…….
TEAM SCHWARTZ recorded their first win of the season by defeating TEAM HIUDT, 5-2,……after
giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, captain HOWARD SCHWARTZ, silenced the bats
and the defense played almost flawlessly with a special shout out to veterans SS MIKE ROTHSTEIN
and 2B GARY FISHER……..the victors tallied four times in the bottom of the opening frame to take a
4-2 lead and added an insurance run late in the game to provide the margin…..in the 7th inning, things
got a little tense when the tying run came to the plate, but a nice play at 3B by Xavier Hall Of Famer,
PETE SPOERL, shut the door……
In other action……
TEAM GROH improved to 2-0 with a wild 20-19 victory over TEAM SOLOMON……
Captain KEN GROH reported that his team came back from five runs down three times and scored
six runs in the bottom of the 6th inning when sub EVAN WEISSER, son of long time player, MARK
WEISSER, scored the go ahead run on a base knock off the bat of COMMISSIONER BRAD
WAGNER that hit the shin of pitcher STEVE ZAWATSKY (pitching in place of started RANDY
BROYLES…….then in the top of the 7th inning, the victory was solidified with a heads up defensive
play by rookie AARON LIND……
HITTING STATS….SCOTT FRIEND had four hits, four runs scored and three RBI’S…..BEN
BARNETT had four hits….DAN GILBERT had three base knocks and 5 RBI’s……WAGNER, GROH
each scored four runs, while BRUCE “THE NATURAL” drove in three runs……
After the game, GROH commented, “We showed a lot of heart and fight.”
TEAM SOLOMON captain STU SOLOMON reported in……
“Our whole team hit the ball well and Steve had a gutty performance. We had a lot of guys out of
position, but we look forward to getting on the winning side this Sunday” SOLOMON said
afterwards.
GROH added, “Stu has put together a squad that will be a tough out come the second half and
tournament time.”
Hitting stars included, ADAM CRONSTEIN, who hit two home runs, SOLOMON went four for five,
MICHAEL KAHAN, returning to the league after a brief retirement, and BEN RODRIGUEZ each
had several clutch hits…..
HERE’ HOPING STEVE ZAWATSKY IS OK AND READY TO PLAY SOONER THAN
LATER……
Elsewhere………
TEAM BRAFMAN improved to 2-0 with a 14-2 beating of TEAM GREFER…….
PLEASE NOTE…..THIS REPORT WAS PROVIDED BY MARC BRAFMAN…….with a few
edits…..
TYLER “THE BIG UNIT” WOLF, all ten feet of him, led the offense with a bases loaded double, a
sacrifice fly and a two run single…..After the game, reports BRAFMAN, WOLF, while downing his
fourth plate of chicken wings stated, “I was just trying to make solid contact and help the team win.
I’m glad my hits were able to find the holes.”……Not to be outdone, uncle SCOTT WOLF had a
double and two RBI’s and made a diving catch in the outfield while also making a divot out of this
knee brace that would have made HAPPY GILMORE proud……
BRAFMAN said after the game, “We hit the ball up and down the order. We also all used our keen
batters eye and took the walk when the opportunity was presented to us. I’m proud of the guys for not
swinging at bad pitches.”
The rookie captain added, “A tip of the cap to STEVE “AQUAMAN” EPPSTEIN and 14th rounder
DAVID WEIL for pitching and calling a great game. Not since FRANK PASTORE and DAVE VAN
GORDER have I seen a pitcher/catcher so in tune with each other this early in the season.”
Other notes…..EPPSTEIN didn’t walk a batter and had NO errors……the defense was led by the
infield of 1B TYLER WOLF, 2B DAVID SNYDER (at least two great plays), SS WES WOLF
(turned a 6-3 double play) and 3B NORM FRANKEL (picked at least three plays out of the dirt)…..as
for the outfield…..PAT FELDMAN and his newest hair style?????? played a solid LCF after missing
week #1….he said afterwards, “I’ve been working out with DICK NICKELSON all off season to
improve my reads off the bat. Forget about TOM EMANSKI and FRED MCGRIFF. When it comes
to handling balls no one does better than NICKELSON.”………finally, DAVID COHEN, (the other
hockey fan in the league….I’m the other) and “DUFFY” WOLF a.k.a. the meat of the order, also
continued to help the team both at the plate and on the field.”…………
FUN FACT OF THE WEEK……..SCOTT “SHORTY” ADAMS is THE HIT KING early on this
season as he has continued his “HOT” bat…..after going 4 for 4 last week vs. STEVE “AQUAMAN”
EPPSTEIN, he went 3 for 3 vs. hard thrower HOWARD SCHWARTZ……..
QUESTION……WHO HAS THE NEATEST HAIRSTYLE IN THE LEAGUE?????????
