Game Results: August 22, 2013

The semi-finals were suspended after a second rain delay with both games in the middle of their contests……

# 2 TEAM SCHWARTZ led # 6 TEAM CRONSTEIN, 3-1, in the third inning, while in the other contest # 5 TEAM WEISBROT led # 9 TEAM LEADER, 10-5, in the third inning, thanks in large part to a couple of triples off the bats of father/son duo BIG GIG “CFL” FRANKLIN and MARK “WILDER” FRANKLIN…….WOW!!!!!
The games will resume on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. with the winners scheduled to meet next Wednesday night for the tournament championship……..STAY TUNED!!!!!!!

The semi-finals are set……..

There were three “upsets” this evening starting with # 9 TEAM LEADER knocking off # 1 TEAM ROSENTHAL, 8-4, behind the stellar pitching of BARRY KAPLAN and solid defense led by ANTON LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON at shortstop…….

In other action, # 2 TEAM SCHWARTZ defeated # 7 TEAM LEFTON…..# 6 TEAM CRONSTEIN defeated # 3 TEAM GREFER in a 10 run rule game and # 5 TEAM WEISBROT defeated # 4 TEAM WAGNER……

# 2 TEAM SCHWARTZ vs. #6 TEAM CRONSTEIN
# 5 TEAM WEISBROT vs. # 9 TEAM LEADER

The BLOG usually does NOT give an opinion, but here’s one……

The JCC Softball League Commission has got to look at how the playoffs are set up……..Two suggestions…..

1. Take the top six teams and have the # 1 and # 2 seeds get first round byes…..

ROUND 1……
# 3 seed plays # 6 seed…………# 4 seed plays #5 seed…….

ROUND 2 (SEMI-FINALS)…..
# 1 seed then plays the lowest seed and the # 2 seed plays the highest seed…….

ROUND 3 (FINALS)…..
the winners then play for the tournament title……

2. Have it the way it is now, but re-seed after each round……….

Congratulations on another great season of JCC softball.

Team Schwartz and Team Rogzilla had a great season. Team Rothstein wins the  2013 Pink Shirt Award. This could be a dynasty in the making!

EDITOR’S NOTE…….TEAM ROSENTHAL won the first half and TEAM SCHWARTZ won the second half…….as for the PINK SHIRT…….TEAM LEADER WINS IT!!!!!!

TEAM SCHWARTZ defeated TEAM CRONSTEIN, 4-3, to wrap up the second half championship…..the victors trailed 3-2 going into the top of the 7th inning only to score two runs and hold on for the victory….it was a total team effort, however extra kudos go out to RON ‘THE ROCKET” NASSIF, STU LAVENDA, ANDY HELDMAN and MICHAEL ASKIN for their play on offense, defense or in some cases both……it should also be noted that the ageless wonder RON ROSE, at age 83, played a stellar game behind the plate and is the oldest player in CINCINNATI JCC softball history to win a championship….How about that?????
