GAME RECAPS FROM LAST WEEK…..sorry this is late, but yours truly was in Minneapolis for a Days Of Our Lives fan event (you read correctly!)………

In this back and forth affair, both teams battled to the last out……

TEAM KAMRASS started the scoring early by plating two runs in the opening frame….after DAVID WERTHEIM scored from second base on a deep fly ball off the bat of ‘GRIFF” HARRIS, sub BRIAN LAWHON pulled his hamstring rounding first base and couldn’t continue, leaving TEAM GROH with only nine players…..they would draw even in the first inning…..

“Thoughts and prayers go to my good friend (LAWHON),” GROH said later…….

TEAM KAMRASS took the lead 5-2 before TEAM GROH scored two runs off the bat of “rookie” JIM BECKETT (not the price guide guy) and TODD WASSERMAN…..

TEAM KAMRASS kept the pressure on with three more runs to lead 7-4 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning……after the first batter making an out, captain KEN GROH and BECKETT got hit by pitches, WASSERMAN delivered a single and a after a couple of walks, JACK COHEN fell behind 0-2 with two outs and the bases loaded before crushing a grand slam to cap off the six run frame……

TEAM GROH led 10-7 going to the last inning and then TEAM KAMRASS chipped away and tied the game at 10-10….. with the bases loaded, ALAN LESSURE, who played both SS and 2B fielded a ground ball and threw to first base where WASSERMAN picked it out of the dirt, JOEY VOTTO style to keep the contest tied……

In the bottom of the frame, DAVID WEIL got a one out single and COHEN had a two out single before HARRIS was intentionally walked to load the bases before DAVID “DEE” HARRIS drove in the winning run…..

All the players on the winning side scored a run with WEIL scoring his second to win the game….

COHEN, DEE HARRIS, GROH, BECKETT and WASSERMAN all had two hits each……

On the losing end, MICAH KAMRASS and JASON FAUST had four and three hits respectively………

by marc brafman……..

Three times was the charm  as TEAM BRAFMAN and TEAM T. SCHWARTZ finally avoided the thunder, lightening and rain and their game in…..a 21-3 rout the featured timely hitting and fielding by the victors……

When you look at the score, you’d think the play of the game was a big hit or hits, but really it was in the bottom of the opening frame……

Captain MARC BRAFMAN stated afterwards, “Kudos to RANDY “TEX” BROYLES, ZACH “ZZ TOP”ZACKUM and BOB “SUNSET” FELDMAN who turned a fantastic 1-4-3 double play to end the inning. This kept the top of the SCHWARTZ line-up out of the batters box in the bottom of the second inning and let us increase our lead. Just a great play overall and a big momentum boost for us.”…….

Also contributing on defense were ERIC “THE MOUTH OF THE MIDWEST” GRUEN in LF and AARON “STRAIGHT OUTTA” COMPTON at SS…….

There was plenty of offense led by RAYN “THE HEBREW HAMMER” BAUM who had two hits including a triple….

“I’m the anti-JOSE PERAZA,” BAUM said later, “Not only am I good at playing more than one position on the field, but I can hit in the clutch.”…..

PAT “SUNSHINE” FELDMAN, JERRY “DOC” KIRZNER, BRAD “THE HUMAN RAIN DELAY” WAGNER, and BRAFMAN, all contributed at the plate…..

Next game up for TEAM BRAFMAN is a rematch of the loss to TEAM KAMRASS in which BRAFMAN is really looking forward so he can make amends for his boneheaded throw that cost his team…..

“I’ve had to live with that play all season,” he said….”I go to sleep at night with pictures of RAFI GOLDFARB dancing off third base in my head and let me tell you, that is not a pretty picture.”

TEAM LEFTON had some errors in the field, but overcame that with some huge defensive plays which included JEFF FINKELSTEIN playing a solid SS and starting a double play with the bases loaded…..

” I may be up in years, but I can still hold my own out there at SS. My parents were there in the stands and I wanted to show them that I still had it, ” he said afterwards…..

…..BRAD GALLUP made up for an earlier miscue by making a brilliant play in backing up a bad throw into RF and gunned a would be run out at the plate……

“I guess the word hasn’t made the rounds about my arm. When will they learn not to run on me,” he said later……

COREY NORRIS came up with a bare handed play to nip a runner at 1B and ended a threat in the top of the 7th inning when he fielded a ground ball, stepped on 3B for one out and fired to 1B to complete a game ending double play…..

“I’m becoming more comfortable at 3B. I’m no Mike Schmidt (youngsters….google him), but I just want to contribute any way I can, ” the Boston native said………

JIMMY LEFTON pitched one of his better games and came up with two huge hits to help the cause…….”Being the captain, I knew I had to come thru and I think I did,” he said after the game….

PLEASE NOTE…..MOST OF THE GAME RECAPS WILL BE DELAYED UNTIL THE END OF THE WEEKEND DUE TO ME BEING OUT OF TOWN….(unless someone else wants to do it)….

GAME RECAPS…….

lefton 13

by roger rosenthal……

After scoring six runs in the top of the first inning, TEAM LEADER roared back to take the lead and held on for the victory…..

ROBERT PELBERG continued his hot hitting and played solid behind the plate…….ROGER ROSENTHAL and EDDIE GALLOP hit well at the bottom the order as did JEFF “LITTLE FINK” FINKELSTEIN, but it wasn’t quite enough…..

TEAM LEFTON, coming off arguably their best defensive game of the year, had a few miscues that cost them big time……afterwards, captain JIMMY LEFTON said, “We win as a team and we lose as a team and I don’t blame anyone on this team. We normally make those plays, tonight we didn’t.”

TEAM LEFTON is still in the hunt for the first half title, but needs a bit of help down the stretch.

“We’re still in the hunt for the first half title and I believe in this team  and I expect us to come back and win the next two games,” LEFTON added.

The defensive play of the game for TEAM LEFTON was BRAD GALLOP throwing a runner out at third base on a “perfect” throw from RF.

“I don’t think these guys think I can throw the ball that well. Let them run on me and see what happens,” GALLOP said afterwards to reporters…..

by greg leader…….

TEAM LEADER notched its’ third consecutive win with a 16-13 victor over TEAM LEFTON….the victors fell behind 6-0 in the top of the opening frame only to come back with four runs in the bottom of the inning and took a 8-4 lead in the second inning as the defense tightened up….

JAMIE KURTZER continued his strong pitching and didn’t allow a walk, despite challenging weather conditions…..

The defensive play for TEAM LEADER was captain GREG LEADER throwing a runner out at the plate after catching a short fly ball in RF…….to complete a double play!…..

The lefties of TEAM LEFTON were strong as usual, but some righty batting towards that back of the batting order had a legit double…….who would that be??????

Both teams battled thru the rain soaked game in somewhat of a pitchers dual with both teams missing their big hitting third basemen…..

After both teams went 1-2-3 in the first inning, MARC SIMONS and RYAN SMALL had hits to begin the second inning…..KEN GROH was up next and took advantage of KYLE GREFER, a 1st team defensive RCF, being only able to play 1B, launched a 257 foot three run bomb….

In the next inning, DAVID WERTHEIM, GRIFFIN HARRIS and SIMONS added two more runs with aggressive base running and a lot of dabbing…..

TEAM GREFER plated a run in the bottom of the 4th inning, but TEAM GROH added two more runs in the fifth after a double by HARRIS and back to back singles by SMALL and GROH…..

Up 7-1 heading to the bottom of the final inning, GROH survived a shaky frame to finally get back in the win column……

Afterwards, GROH stated afterwards, “After not winning in May, hopefully, we are finally turning the corner for a second half and championship run.”

The defense played error free ball and were led by strong plays from the KAMRASS brothers, MICAH and JARED, the HEADMAN cousins, ADAM and ANDY and “SUPER” JAMES SWAN…..

After two games of slow hitting, the bats came alive thanks to a sacred Jobu ritual…..the biggest hits came from RAFI “VELACIRAFTOR” GOLDFARB, DAVID “DANCING WITH THE STARS” SOLOMON, RILEY “SLASH” ABLE and ADAM “VOTTOMATCI” CRONSTEIN…….

The player of the game was pitcher, JASON “THE MAD HUNGARIAN” FAUST, who allowed two runs in the first inning and was unhittable the rest of the game….he also had the the “walk-off” hit to score BEN “DOUBLE B” BARNETT who was the team’s leading baserunner……

“You play to with the game,” said HERM EDWARDS AND MICAH KAMRASS. “I’m glad we were able to win this one.”

LOST AND FOUND…..

Did anyone find a green water bottle on field #2 after the game….if so, it’s Corey Schwartz’…….
