TEAM SCHWARTZ DEFEATS TEAM WEISSER, 5-4, IN THRILLER FINALS……

In one of the more dramatic finishes in recent history in the tournament finals, #1 seeded TEAM

SCHWARTZ defeated #7 seeded TEAM WEISSER, 5-4…..

The victors had to come from behind for the fifth consecutive game as they trailed 4-1 going into the

bottom of the 7th inning only to score four runs to win the tournament…..

The rally started with one out after “GRIFF” HARRIS made a spectacular catch in LCF…..six straight

batters got on base climaxed by the game winning hit with the bases loaded off the bat of DAVID

SOLOMON….

Again, it was a total team effort as once again, TEAM SCHWARTZ never quit even though it looked

bleak in the latter innings as MARK WEISSER and CO. had things seemingly under control……

There were many highlights on both sides, but maybe the two most important defensive plays were

made by 3B PETE SPOERL, who caught a vicious line drive off the bat of TAYLOR SCHWARTZ

with one out and the bases loaded and turned it into a double play and ROGER ROSENTHAL made

the play of the year possibly when he snared a ground ball behind the second base bag, tagged the

base with the ball and while on the ground threw to 1B to complete a double play to end a threat…..

After wards, ROSENTHAL said, “That is the best defensive play I’ve ever made in my years in the

league.”

Added DAVE “THE MINISTER OF FUN” COHEN, who was one of the many fans in attendance, “If

I wasn’t there to see it, I wouldn’t have believed it.”

DAVID WEIL, also in attendance, said after wards while drinking beer (what else is new?), “I think

someone abducted the real ROGER ROSENTHAL because that was not him.”

CONGRATS go out to both teams on what was a mostly a hard fought well played

game……….

#1 SCHWARTZ VS. #7 WEISSER SET FOR FINALS…….WEDNESDAY SEPT. 6………6 P.M.

#1 SCHWARTZ defeated #5 LEADER, 12-5, and #7 WEISSER defeated #3 GROH, 4-1, to set up

the tournament title game……ESPN coverage starts at 5:30 p.m. with the pre-game show with STEVE

JARNICKI and long time JCC player DAVE WERNICK doing the play by play and color……

Also of note……..the first 100 fans to the game receive a complimentary RON ROSE bobble head…..

In one semi-final game on Field #2, top seeded SCHWARTZ defeated #5 seeded LEADER, 12-5…..

For the second week in a row, when things were looking bleak, they came back in the latter stages of

the game to bring home the victory…..

After trailing 5-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the victors exploded for nine runs in part

due to some clutch hitting off the bats of PETE SPOERL, HOWIE SCHWARTZ and JERRY

KIRZNER…..

On the mound, SCHWARTZ pitched a masterful game giving up five runs…..all unearned…..

OF NOTE…….After what appeared to be a meltdown of some players (NOT to be named),

SCHWARTZ called a team meeting in the middle of the fifth inning to right the ship….

“It’s the first team meeting I’ve had in 55 years,” SCHWARTZ said afterwards.
