IN THE BETTER LATE THAN NEVER DEPT……..

Captain KEN GROH reported in with an update of his team’s clinching the first half title and the first

half stats……

Vs. TEAM HIUDT, they trailed 2-0 after the opening frame, but struck for 3, 6 and 5 runs in

consecutive innings en route to a five inning 15-3 victory…..new team member (JACK COHEN

(perm. sub), JUSTIN KIRSCHNER, NOAH GILBERT and GROH all had three hits each…..of

GILBERT’S hits two were a triple and home run while batting in the clean-up spot……RYAN BAUM

had his first triple of the season and seven players scored two runs or more…….

The victory coupled with a TEAM SCHWARTZ loss, gave them the first half title as they would have

lost a tiebreaker……

*AARON LIND, out for the season with a torn ACL had six extra base hits and a .571

average…..

*BRAD WAGNER led the team with 15 runs scored….

*KEN GROH and DAN GILBERT each batted .654……GILBERT also had 13 RBI’S…….

*NOAH GILBERT led the team with two home runs………

*SCOTT FRIEND hit .609 and 13 RBI’s……

*RYAN BAUM, BEN BARNETT, RICK TENNENHOLTZ, JUSTIN KIRCHNER all batted over

.400……

*Veterans EDDIE GALLUP and BRUCE YOUNGER played great defense and helped unite the

team….

TEAM BRAFMAN PLAYS SPOILER……

TEAM BRAAFMAN pulled off an upset by defeating TEAM SCHWARTZ, 6-2,…..the loss cost them

the first half title…..

The offense was led by an unlikely source, DAVE “THE MINISTER OF FUN” COHEN, who had a

key two run double and by PAT “BUN BUN” FELDMAN who broke the game open with a two run

triple…..

The defense also was a big key in the victory as WES WOLF turned a double play, DAVID

SNYDER, GREGG HARRIS and TYLER WOLF all made key contributions in the infield…..

The real star was, veteran pitcher, STEVE “AQUAMAN” EPPSTIN who turned in a masterful game

with the help of veteran DAVID WEIL behind the dish……after giving up two runs in the

opening frame, “EPPY”, as he is known by the SILVER SPRING HOUSE “BABES”, shut the door

on the offense……

Captain MARK BRAFMAN……”This was a 100% team win. To hold that team to only two runs

shows the heart and grit of this team.”

The rookie captain added, “We didn’t have much to play for and to spoil their first half was a great

way to finish up. I expect big things from our team moving forward.”

SCOTT WOLF………..”We (SCOTT and DUFF) seem to always be in the shadows of WES, TYLER

and “FAST  FREDDIE” (WOLF) and with Howie who we’ve both faced plenty over the years, it was

nice to show the younger guys a thing or two.

The outspoken WOLF added, “That was old school JCC softball tonight.”

DAVID WEIL………”I credit my catching coach DICK NICKELSON in preparing me for this game.

Catching such a hard thrower like “EPPY” keeps me on my toes.”

FIRST HALF TITLE STILL UP FOR GRABS……

Three teams are very much in contention for the first half title and a fourth team is still

mathematically in the hunt, but needs a lot of help…..

TEAMS GROH, LEADER and SCHWARTZ are all 5-2 entering the last week of first half play…..the

tiebreaker is head to head play and in this case GROH has beaten LEADER…..LEADER has beaten

SCHWARTZ and finally, SCHWARTZ has beaten GROH…..IF the first half ends in a tie, then there

would be a three way tie for the title…..TEAM LEFTON, 5-3, would need all three teams to lose to

have a chance…..STAY TUNED!!!!!!
