ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!!

The last week of regular season play………

*TEAM SCHWARTZ continued their torrid pace with a narrow 4-4 victory over TEAM LEFTON as key defensive plays were turned in by ALAN LESSURE,  JACK COHEN and AARON COMPTON…..key hits came off the bats of ALAN COHEN, JOSH LISMAN and BOB BONNER…….

**TEAM LEADER  roaring into the tournament with some momentum as they defeated TEAM ROTHSTEIN, 20-7…..BARRY KAPLAN led the way on the mound only to hand the ball to ace reliever MICHAEL “BUCKY” MARGOLIS to mop up the final innings…..two game balls were presented to SCOTT BERGE and MARK LEVINE, who both had “monster” games in the field as well as at the plate…….

***TEAM WAGNER came back from a 6-2 deficit late to knock off the slumping TEAM WEISBROT, 7-6, in a game that determined who would play in the Sunday play-in game….the victors jumped out to a 2-0 lead early only to have TEAM WEISBROT come back to take a 6-2 lead only to have pitcher MIKE GRAY leave the game because of an injury……DANNY “BOBCAT” SCHAAFF came in and did a nice job at the start, but then lost his control when after a hit off the bat of veteran BOB STEINBERG, he walked three of the next four batters and in between MATT STEINBERG hit a towering drive to deep right center field that went for a double…..after the dust had cleared it was 7-6 and that’s how the game ended……..

****TEAM GUTTMAN defeated TEAM CRONSTEIN, 13-8, AS RON “THE ROCKET” NASSIF hit his third grandslam of the season…..

ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!!!

*TEAM SCHWARTZ continued their dominating ways by defeating a depleted TEAM WEISBROT team in a continuation game from the first half and then the regularly scheduled second half game…..defense and timely hitting paved the way for the victors….kudos go to ALAN LESSURE, who replaced RON ROSE, the CAL RIPKEN of the JCC league, behind the plate , BOB BONNER at third base and Super Sub MATT STEINBERG at shortstop……ALAN COHEN had several clutch hits and son JACK COHEN did his SCOTT WOLF impresson with some great base running…..as for TEAM WEISBROT, they will try to snap out of their losing ways next week in a “key” game vs TEAM WAGNER……a game to be aired on ESPN U with GUS JOHNSON and BILL RAFTERY doing the broadcast…….

**TEAM GREFER defeated TEAM GUTTMAN, 6-4, as sub JAMIE KIRTZER pitched a gem and the defense was solid……GARY GREFER and DANNY GREFER had key hits, but the play of the game was when DANNY GREFER turned a double play off the bat of BRANDON GUTTMAN with the bases loaded to end the game…….

***TEAM LEADER was on the front end of the scoreboard again as they posted a 13-3 win over the slump-riden TEAM CRONSTEIN……BARRY KAPLAN was in complete control as his fastball was clocked at 97 mph and the defense was solid…..ANTON LOOOOOOOOON was 2 for 3 with three runs scored, captain GREG “THE SPIDERMAN” LEADER was 2 for 4 with three runs scored and SCOTT BERGE was 3 for 3 with two runs scored……

GET WELL WISHES GO OUT TO RON ROSE, WHO HAD MINOR SURGERY AND WAS HELD OUT OF ACTION LAST NIGHT……

FYI…….Rumor has it that ROGER ROSENTHAL actually shook hands after NOT one, but two games…….at presstime, ROGER’S HOT CORNER was still investigating the rumor…….

ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!!!

CONGRATS TO TEAM SCHWARTZ…….WINNER OF THE SECOND HALF!!!!!!

*TEAM SCHWARTZ defeated TEAM CRONSTEIN with solid defense and clutch hitting…..the biggest hit came off the bat of ALAN LESSURE with a bases loaded clearing double over the left fielder’s head….RON ROSE, the ageless wonder, was on base each time at bat…….other key hits were provided by ALLEN COHEN, BOB BONNER and MARK NEWMAN……

**Reported in by losing captain BRAD WAGNER…..TEAM ROTHSTEIN continued their winning ways with a narrow 5-4 victory over TEAM WAGNER…….veteran pitcher STEVE “MR. CHICKEN WINGS” EPPSTEIN recorded the victory as former Xavier star baseballer PETE SPOERL, MIKE KADETZ, MIKE ROTHSTEIN and STU SOLOMON provided key hits for the winners, while DOUG SANDOR, MITCH EVANS and ROTHSTEIN keyed the defense…..TEAM WAGNER fell short twice on comebacks late in the game…..surprise started WILLY WAXLER, called up earlier in the day from AA Pensecola, kept his team in it throughout, but they just couldn’t complete the comeback……WAGNER had a two-run homerun and sacrifice fly to spark the offense……next week, TEAM ROTHSTEIN battles TEAM LEFTON in a completion from the first half and the second half regularly scheduled game with both games to be aired on Fox Sports West, while TEAM WAGNER gets the week off in preparations for a “key” showdown with TEAM WEISBROT, however some members of the team will be subbing for other teams next week……

***TEAM GUTTMAN got back to their winning ways with a victory over TEAM LEFTON as JOEL ELLISON hit his first homerun of the season and RON “THE ROCKET” NASSIF and TODD WASSERMAN had key hits for the victors…….captain BRANDON GUTTMAN has a shout out to MARK LEVINE for subbing……..

Cub Reporter BRAD WAGNER reports in as well about some trash talking that occurred at a West Side establishment last night between TEAM GUTTMAN player and former Reading High School football/basketball great, JEFF NASH (NO relation to STEVE or RICK) that TEAM GUTTMAN will NOT lose three times to TEAM ROTHSTEIN if it presents itself in the post-season tournament…..another captain who was present and will remain nameless…….hmmmmm……..said there’s a good chance of three teams receiving trophies at the end of the year banquet……STAY TUNED!!!!!!
