ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!

One of the better rivalries in recent memory might be heating up between TEAM GUTTMAN AND TEAM ROTHSTEIN…….

*TEAM ROTHSTEIN dealt first half champs TEAM GUTTMAN their only loss in the first half and revenge was on their collective minds when the two met on Field # 2 last night….
It started with an e-mail from rookie JEFF NASH to this blogger that they would avenge the loss and that STU SOLOMON would NOT be a factor in the battle and that not only did they win the first half, but would capture the second half and the tournament as well…..

The game was very spirited and close throughout, but when the dust settled TEAM ROTHSTEIN had posted another win, 9-8…..key performers for the victors were DOUG SANDOR with a triple and a go ahead two out RBI plus a laser throw to get BRIAN GOLDBERG to end the game….STU SOLOMON had two outstanding defensive plays in left field (take that JEFF NASH) and finally Aaron Perl who turned a double play in the sixth inning…..kudos also go to sub SCOTT WOLF who made a couple of great defensive plays and was a spark at the top of the batting order……

As for TEAM GUTTMAN, captain BRANDON GUTTMAN threw two runners out at home plate and sub TAYLOR SCHWARTZ, a possible future JCC player,  did a nice job behind the plate…..

**TEAM GREFER continued their winning ways with a 7-1 victory over the slump ridden TEAM WAGNER…..DANNY GREFER has found a new position….pitching!……behind great defense, the captain was forced into action with an injury to GREG “CFL” FRANKLIN and pitched another stellar game…..brother KYLE GREFER was the early spark and DR. BOB PELBERG showed some great resilience by overcoming a scary collision at second base by roping a double to the fence…..MARK “TEXAS” WEINGARTEN got a triple in a four run bottom of the 6th inning to bust open a tight game……

TEAM WAGNER is still trying to find that consistency to make a run come tournament time……listen to captain BRAD WAGNER on WJCC Saturday morning with STEVE JARNICKI to talk about his team’s ups and downs this season….airtime is 9 a.m.

***TEAM WEISBROT notched their second victory in a row over the slumping TEAM CRONSTEIN, 9-7, as captain JEFF WEISBROT played perhaps his best game of the season by making several plays at shortstop including a game ending double play on a catch of a pop-up going away from home plate and gunning down RICK SILVERMAN at the plate to end the game……the dentist also contributed with a triple and homerun to spark the offense……kudos also go out to pitcher MIKE GRAY who made a few tremendous plays on bunt attempts and outfielder JOSH FRANKEL who once again played a stellar outfield…..WEISBROT will be a guest on ESPN’S SPORTS NATION this coming Monday on ESPN2 at 5 p.m. when he’ll talk about his team’s chances in the upcoming tournament and how he has dealt with ROGER “ROGZILLA” ROSENTHAL’s  “little” temper tantrums……..should be interesting!

****DAN STEINBERG of TEAM WAGNER was hit by a batted ball in pre-game off the bat of brother MATT STEINBERG and missed the game……NO reports on the injury at press time, but here’s to hoping he has a speedy recovery!!!!!

ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!!

It is no wonder that BRANDON GUTTMAN was the first to report in…..

*TEAM GUTTMAN continued their winning ways with a 19-13 victory over TEAM LEADER in a contest that lasted 2 1/2 hours……….WOW!!!!!……..RON “THE ROCKET” NASSIF had a five RBI inning, including a grand slam, his second in two games, and is showing that he may be getting better with age……records are NOT kept in this department, but he may very well be going after a record of consecutive games with a grand slam next game vs. TEAM GREFER………BRANDON “B LE B” LEBEAU went 3 for 4 with a triple and homerun, while the wily veteran TODD “THE MACHINE” WASSERMAN was 3 for 4 and is batting at a .909 clip over the last three games (stats courtesy of GUTTMAN STATS, INC.)…..ANDY STAR “POWER” had two hits, but laid what captain BRANDON GUTTMAN described as a “pancake block on the first baseman” on an errant throw that pulled the fielder off the base into the base path……he was out!…..it should be noted that MR. STARR played for the Buffalo Bills……can you spell……OUCH!!!!!!……

**TEAM ROTHSTEIN broke out of their hitting woes with a 14-4 victory over TEAM CRONSTEIN……according to team captain MICHAEL ROTHSTEIN, it was a total team effort on offense and defense with an extra star given to DOUG SANDOR, who played a solid third base…..

***IN THE BETTER LATE THAN NEVER DEPARTMENT……TEAM GREFER defeated TEAM LEFTON, 14-10, behind timely hitting, great defense and solid pitching from DANNY GREFER…..you read right!!!!…..
in his JCC debut, the captain pitched well to contact and even recorded a strikeout on a 105 miles per hour fastball….hmmmmmmmmm…….homeruns came off the bats of DAVID FOX and EVAN COHEN, while LARRY NEWMAN showed off some of his baserunning skills and sub JAMIE KURTZER flashed some leather on defense……the game ended with 2011 Rookie Of The Year MARK “TEXAS” WEINGARTEN making a diving play up the middle…..

STAR SIGHTINGS…….father DAVID COHEN and son EVAN COHEN were spotted at The Montgomery Inn in Montgomery on Thursday night with the rest of their family……a few people were seen waiting to get EVAN’S autograph, while no one gave a damn about DAVID……

ROGER’S HOT CORNER!!!!!!

*TEAM WEISBROT broke their five game losing streak by defeating TEAM ROTHSTEIN, 9-4, behind the pitching of JASON “BIG HAUS” FAUST, on loan from TEAM GUTTMAN…..in return for the favor, FAUST was paid off in cheap sports caps……offensive highlights came from the entire team, but key contributors were BEN RODRIGUEZ, with a bases loaded clearing double, TEDDY KANTOR, with three hits, rookie JACK “CAJUN” RUBIN, with two hits and JOSH FRANKEL with a homerun and three runs scored……however the JCC SOFTBALL LEAGUE PLAY OF THE YEAR to date came from University of Kentucky graduate, LEV ORLOV, when he leaped over catcher DAVID WEIL to avoid a tag to score a run……WOW!!!!!!!

**TEAM WAGNER finally found their missing hitting sticks as they pounded TEAM LEFTON, 15-2…..behind the outstanding pitching of MARK WEISSER and solid defense from WILL WAXLER, MATT STEINBERG, JOHNNY BERG, STEVE OSTROW, MICHAEL KAHAN and MARK BLOOM…..captain BRAD “WAGS” WAGNER promised a line-up change and it made a BIG difference as STEINBERG led off and was 3 for 5 with three doubles…..JORDAN “THE HOOSIER” COHEN, injured in the game on an errant throw while running to first base, scored four times and had a homerun…..TEAM WAGNER plays first place TEAM SCHWARTZ in a game that will be aired on the Cincinnati Gardens Radio Network…..you need Cincinnati Commandos and/or Cincinnati Kings and/or Cincinnati Roller Girls season tickets in order to pick it up, while TEAM LEFTON battles TEAM GREFER in a game to be aired on WGN-TV……

ALEX LEFTON, ace cub reporter for TEAM LEFTON, reports in that he had a double and a triple…..too bad the rest of the LEFTONS can’t do squat!!!!…..BEREL “BOOM BOOM” COHEN also did his share with two hits and had both RBI’s…..JIMMY LEFTON reportedly pulled his groin and was replaced on the mound in the 7th inning by STEVE  “Z” ZAWATSKY, who was shelled for a nine spot to put the game away….good defense was played by MARC TESSEL at 2B, JERRY KIRZNER at 3B and BEN “WEEZE” LEFTON at SS…….

***TEAM GREFER got back in the victory column with a 18-14 victory of TEAM CRONSTEIN….the victors jumped out to a big lead and held back a comeback to post the win……DAVID COHEN, father of Syracuse University bound EVAN COHEN, had a triple and a great catch, while KYLE GREFER had four hits and a diving catch……sub JEFF NASH (TEAM GUTTMAN) had four hits to help spark the victory….GREG “GIG” FRANKLIN played through an injury or “old” age to pitch well enough for the win with the game ending on a diving catch by sub BRIAN GOLDBERG to end the game…..
