ROGER’S HOT CORNER…………

Thursday June 10…..11:35m….captain ADAM CRONSTEIN reported in with a game summary of his team’s come from behind 8-7 victory over TEAM KIRZNER….solid defense played a huge roll in the win as rookie ANDY GAGE played a flawless game at SS in place of the absent MATT STEINBERG….he also had three hits including a bunt hit that he circled the bases on due to a couple of throwing errors and two RBI’s….rookie MATT “COWBOY II” GOLDSCHMIDT had three hits and CRONSTEIN (the son)had two hits, one a homerun and three RBI’s….SCOTT KOTZIN, who received the game ball, had two hits including the game winner in the top of the 7th inning and caught every ball hit his way in the outfield….ROGER “ROGZILLA” ROSENTHAL had two defensive gems at 2B for his team as he robbed MARK WEISSER both times, the last one a soft liner over the second base bag that ended the game….kudos go to BRAD WAGNER for two fine catches in RCF to rob CRONSTEIN of extra bases….JOEL TSEVAT sent an e-mail to the BLOG saying he enjoyed seeing the rosters from the 1950 softball league and was surprised NOY to see RON ROSE’s name NOT on them….four members of the softball league were all at one place Thursday night coaching the J.C.C. BLUEJAYS 10-year olds in a baseball game….BRAD WAGNER (NOT IN UNIFORM), MIKE CREEMER, ROGER “ROGZILLA” ROSENTHAL and MARK “GORDY” GORDON were part of history as well as it is believed the first night game ever by a youth team in Cincinnati J.C.C. history….also a one in a million play happened during the game….if interested in the answer, either e-mail me or ask one of the coaches present on one of the wierdest plays ever in baseball (at any level) history….comments, questions to r.rosenthal@fuse.net……

ROGER’S HOT CORNER…………

Thursday June 10….5:17 p.m…two results in from play last night….TEAM SILVERMAN continued their winnng ways with a 7-4 victory over winless TEAM EPPSTEIN….defense was the name of the game for the victors as MARK LEVINE, THE ROCKET and DAVID WEIL, who captain RYAN SILVERMAN has dubbed the “1987 vintage BENITO SANTIAGO” in reference to him throwing a would be stealer out at second base and tagging out a potential run at home plate from a throw from the ROCKET MAN….also kudos to JOHN BERG,on another well pitched game and a stellar defensive play on a bunt…hitting star was ERWIN NEUMAN with a homerun and two-run single….in the other reported game….TEAM GUTTMAN clobbered TEAM LEFTON, 16-3, in a game called after six innings….the winners jumped to a 9-2 lead in the second inning, thanks in a large part to three homeruns which is believed by captain BRANDON GUTTMAN to be a JCC record, and coasted the rest of the way….GUTTMAN strted the long ball brigade by powering a three run tater, followed by GARY “JUST” ASKIN’s line drive shot to leftfield on the very next pitch and finally JARED “J-ROD” HIUDT’s homerun to left centerfield, his fourth of the season which prompted the ageless MARK “GORDY” GORDON to say afterwards that he’s “pound for pound the strongest boychick this league has seen in a while”….hitting stats were as follows….going 3 for 4 were ASKIN, ANDY “A.I.” IGNATOW and KEN “FEAR THE” FEHR….also SCOTT “SHORTY” ADAMS continued to dazzle at the plate and captain GUTTMAN boasting that he’s no longer a sure out….”SUPER” STU WEINSTEIN pitched brilliantly giving up two unearned runs in the opening frame and one more when the game was in bed….the other two games….GREFER/LOON and KIRZNER/CRONSTEIN are still to come (hopefully), but the BLOG does know that TEAM CRONSTEIN won in come from behind fashion 8-7 with the help of hitting from rookie MATT “COWBOY II” GOLDSCHMIDT, with three hits and veteran SCOTT KOTZIN getting what proved to be a “homerun” which proved to be the difference in the top of the seventh inning and the unbelievable defense by ROGER “ROGZILLA” at second base including a game ending catch on a soft liner over the second base bag….NEXT WEEK….GAME OF THE WEEK will pit two winless teams, TEAM LEFTON and TEAM EPPSTEIN, with the losers having to pay for chicken wings after the game for everyone!!!!!!!!…..comments, questions….r.rosenthal@fuse.net…….

ROGER’S HOT CORNER…………

Monday June 7….4:17 p.m….ONLY two responses to the question of if you were to start a professional baseball team, who would you pick, past or present, to start your team with and why?….One answer came all the way from the Dallas, Texas area where ex-JCC “star” BARRY TENENHOLTZ checked in and says he reads the BLOG weekly to keep up with his “old” friends….his answer is WILLIE MAYS, with JOHNNY BENCH being a close second….his reasoning….MAYS, one of the top five 5 tool players in the most critical outfield position over BENCH, who shut down the running game for the other team and called a great game and was a phenominal hitter in his prime, but was more prone to injury….the other answer came from the designated league philospher, DAVID WEIL, who picked PETE ROSE, who states he doesn’t belong in the Hall Of Fame, but was the greatest player (individual and team) of all time who could play multiple positions making selecting the rest of the team that much easier….the BLOG sees both BT and DW as bringing up good choices, but the BLOG selects DEREK JETER, who happens to play for my least favorite team, but plays the game hard ALL the time, no matter the score, and plays arguably the most important position very well and is a clutch hitter, especially when it counts, and is the ultimate team leader….by the way, MILTON BRADLEY was a close second (hahahahahahahahahahaha)….THIS WEEK’S QUESTION….ALL TIME BEST MANAGER IN BASEBALL?…..answers/questions/comments can be sent to r.rosenthal@fuse.net…..
