Solomon…16
Brafman…12

by Marc Brafman

Team Brafman battled to the end but lost 16-12 to Team Solomon last night to end their season. “Like we did all season, we fought to the end,” Jerry “Doc” Kirzner said. We just didn’t get the breaks when we needed them. But I had a great time and I can’t wait for next year.
With Capt. Brafman off listening to 1st and 4th-grade teachers drone on, he’d like to thank all of his guys for a great and fun season. “I had a great time this season. While we didn’t finish on top we sure enjoyed each Wednesday. Looking at the improvement of guys from the start of the year to the end is what it’s all about. From Dave ‘The Minister of Fun’ Cohen really making a name for himself at 1st base, to Zach ‘The Wild Horse’ Zackem going from late-round pick to leadoff hitter (And a guy who should be in the running for most improved player in the league) those guys really showed how it’s done. Ryan ‘The Hebrew Hammer’ Baum, Pat ‘Sunshine’ Feldman, Randy ‘The Big Kahuna’ Broyles, Rookie of the Year  candidate Bob ‘Sunset’ Feldman and Eric ‘The Mouth of the Midwest’ Gruen paced the offense.  I couldn’t have done it this year without the veteran leadership of Jerry ‘Doc’ Kirzner, Aaron ‘Straight outta’ Compton and Brad ‘The Human Rain delay’ Wagner helping me all season. (Aaron get better soon the league is better when you are healthy) A special shoutout to Howard ‘Old Town Road’ Goldwasser who never let his injury in the first half of the season get him down while keeping score and came back strong to help us win a couple of games late in the year.”
Good luck to the rest of the teams playing. See you all next season.
League Notes:
Congrats to Jerry Kirzner and former Commish Ryan Kirzner on the bat mitzvah of Jerry’s granddaughter and Ryan’s niece this past weekend
Who knew that Scott Wolf knew anything else besides stealing bases, as he was interviewed last week for a law web cast about personal injury law. Nice work Scott
I’m not sure which were posted more from you guys last week on Facebook-back to school pictures or pictures of your dogs. Either way, I enjoyed seeing them
Mr. Mike is leading an over 40-year old JCC basketball league this fall. What could possibly go wrong with that?
Congrats to all of the first time and returning All Stars. Commish Rick will post the list soon. (the game is on Sept. 22). Come on out. It’s a lot of fun and we have some fun surprises in store.
Finally, as I do most weeks, I talk to Roger about his favorite topic which is bobbleheads. This got me thinking what would bobbleheads of certain guys in the league look like:
Joel “The Wrath of” Kahn-either in a chef hat or of course as KAHNNNNN from Star Trek
Riley “the Big Man” Able with a sax in his hand and when you press a button it will play “Born to Run”
Dan Green and Eric Gruen- with a bat in their hand in the bunt position
Taylor Schwartz and Leon “The Bull” Seserman sitting on a couch watching TV with a blanket wrapped around them
Zach Mayer – when you push his head it complains to the ump
Scott “Shorty” Adams instead of his head moving, his hand moves as he goes to left on his phone looking at tinder dates
David “BP” Snyder doesn’t have a head that moves but when you look at his chest it opens up
Tyler Stansbury – looks just like a Jr. Griffey bobblehead with his sweet swing
Eppy would have a bobble arm lifting up wings and donuts
David “Votto” Weil would get two…one with him holding a bourbon, the other with a camera taking pictures of his food
The entire Lefton Family, Eric Gruen, Randy Broyles, and all other OSU Fans will have one with their hands up watching a TV as the Buckeyes once again lose to an unranked team by 20 (I hope that team is UC next week)
All of the college guys will have one looking like Bluto or Otter from Animal House
“Handsome”: Sam Castellini will be sitting on a life guard chair looking like Wendy Peppercorn
Ron Rose will look like Bob Ross with a paint brush in one hand
Finally, Roger will be holding a bobble head of himself holding a bobblehead.

GAME RECAPS……

groh           13
schwartz, t. 8
by ken groh
TEAM GROH fell behind 6-0 after three innings with timely hitting from JEFF WEISBROT and TAYLOR SCHWARTZ….
STEVE EPPSTEIN was hurling like SATCHEL PAIGE for five of the innings only allowing one run, but the victors had a great 4th inning with seven runs on eight hits and a couple of sacrifices and finally found some gaps in a strong defense to take a 7-6 lead…..
Heading into the 6th inning, the score was 8-7 when SCOTT BERGE started a five run frame all with two outs….to help put the game away….
MARC SIMONS and BERGE each had three hits to pace the offense….
Defensively, SIMONS and subs PETE SOLTEZ and TYLER STANSBURY led the defense…..
kamrass 5
grefer    1
by micah kamrass
In the span of four days, TEAM KAMRASS catapulted from staring down the #9 seed to earning the #5 seed in the upcoming tournament….
JASON “THE MAD HUNGARIAN” FAUST turned in what may have been the best performance of his JCC softball league career so far….he was unhittable on the mound and delivered key hitting from the plate….
EDITOR’S NOTE……
FAUST told a certain reporter before the game, “You watch, I’m going to pitch a gem.”
Big knocks also came from DAVID “SHOT HEARD AROUND THE J” SOLOMON, ADAM “GREEK FREAK” HELDMAN, ADAM “VOTTOMATIC” CRONSTEIN, and RAFI “VELOCIRAPTOR” GOLDFARB…..
Strong defensive performances came from “SUPER” JAMES SWAN, ANDY “NEW KNEES” HELDMAN, RILEY “ROUNDING SECOND AND HEADING FOR HOME” ABLE, SOLOMON, GOLDFARB and captain MICAH KAMRASS…..
Kudos go out to MARK “GO BUCKS” TENENHOLTZ of TEAM GREFER who threw a perfect strike to father and COMMISSIONER RICK TENENHOLTZ at the plate to nail a runner…..
TEAM KAMRASS’  meteoric rise from the bottom to the middle of the standings when KAMRASS out dueled other team captains KEN GROH and MARC BRAFMAN in a game of high card draw to receive a higher seed, #5……

GAME RECAPS PART 2……..

leader    14
solomon 3

by greg leader

TEAM LEADER avenged a lopsided early first half loss against TEAM SOLOMON with a 14-3 win……the  victors turned a 0-4 start to the season into a 11-5 final record and a #1 seed in a “worst to first” run……

Both teams’ pitchers, BRANDON WOLF and JAMIE KURTZER were accurate during the contest, but MVP candidate KURTZER kept the TEAM SOLOMON hitters off balance….

The difference in the game was a seven run 2nd inning….

Game balls were presented to ZACH MAYER and MIKE ROTHSTEIN, who each played stellar in the field and each had big offensive games.,

Of note, there was a controversial moment in the game in which a batter caught a pitch heading in his direction….the player was awarded aHBP and awarded first base…….RIGHT DECISION????….YOU MAKE THE CALL………..

brafman     13

lefton           3……five innings
by marc brafman
Team Brafman with their backs against the wall came out and played their best game of the year. With a 13-3 win over Lefton they avoided the play in game. “In my 5 years in the league that was the best game any of my teams has played Brafman said post game. We played a clean game in the field and all 11 guys had at least one hit. And with the pressure on to avoid the playin game we showed that we can be a force in the post season.
Leading the way on offense was the tag team of Randy “The Big Kahuna” Broyles and Pat “Sunshine” Feldman who each had multi hits including a 3 run homer from Feldman.
Feldman and Jeremy “Hamilton” Fogel from Lefton waged a battle all night as each had a homer and a couple of hits. “I wanted to hit the ball hard and with Jeremy out there away from him Sunshine said post game. I’m glad I was able to help our team win.
Not to be overlooked Howard “Old Town Road” Goldwasser, Marc Brafman, Ryan  “the Hebrew Hammer Baum” Brad “The Human Rain delay” Wagner and Zach The Wild Horse” Zachem each had multi hits.  A special shout out to Eric “The Human Ball Magnet” Gruen who continues to find ways to get hit by balls this year got plunked in the arm with the bases loaded to drive in a run to go along with getting hit in pre-game, and in game earlier in the season
On defense Dave “The Minister of Fun” Cohen, Bob Sunset Feldman, and Jerry “Doc” Kirzner each played great in the field.
by roger rosenthal

After playing perhaps their best game of the season on Sunday vs. a TEAM LEADER team that had won ten straight games, TEAM LEFTON played perhaps their worst game of the season…..

There were two notable plays in the game to note for TEAM LEFTON…..

JEREMY FOGEL hit a game tying two run home run to the opposite field and slid into home just ahead of the throw from the outfield…..also, MIKE KAHAN mad a fabulous catch down the left field line while going out of play…….

However, most of the game, TEAM LEFTON couldn’t get out of their way……

“We stunk out the joint. We need to forget this game and get ready for the tournament. I think we can have a short memory and be ready for our next game. We’ll see, “said team spokesman ROGER ROSENTHAL…….

League Notes: by marc brafman……

It’s been quite a week for guys in the league and the Reds. First, last Friday Roger Rosenthal tossed out the first pitch on Alzheimer’s Night and on Monday,  former catcher Albert Weisbrot, father to Jeff Weisbrot, sang the national anthem. Congrats to both of them……
In other league notes on the same night that Albert sang (Monday) Jose Peraza dropped a fly ball in LF that I am 100% convinced any of our LF and LC would have caught once again proving Brad Wagner’s theory that Peraza would be better in our league than MLB.
Dave “The Minister of Fun” Cohen and our very own commish Rick went to see KORN and Alice in Chains last week at Riverbend. Dave reported that the concert was great but the highlight of the show were the two guys sitting next to them that said both Dave and Rick looked more like their doctors than KORN fans. I think I can agree with them…….
From this point forward Pete Soltesz should be refered to as Pete “The straw that stirs the drink” Soltesz as he has seemed this year to morph into Reggie Jackson…….
Speaking of the mid 70’s Yankees, Weston Wolf looks more and more like Billy Martin each week. Next time you get tossed from a game Wes I expect you to kick dirt on the ump and the plate…….
Props to heads grounds keeper Ken Groh for his pictures of the field each week when it rains. It’s a little known fact that Ken likes to fish at the pond across the street and is always at the ready when the fields needs to be dragged come rain or shine.
Finally I’ve mentioned this before but I still think it’s pretty amazing. In baseball history (as far as I can tell) Warren Spahn faced Stan Musial 260 times over their careers which is the most times a pitcher faced a hitter. (it also could be Ty Cobb vs. Walter Johnson) but my point is this. Last Sunday Howie pitched against Big Gig. I can only imagine in the 50+ years those guys have been in the league how many times they have faced each other. Keep up the good work guys it’s fun watching you play.
Good luck to everyone in the playoffs. It’s been another great regular season
