GAME RECAPS…..PART 1……

by roger rosenthal……..

In a game that all 12 players contributed at the plate and in the field, TEAM LEFTON continued their winning ways……

After falling behind 2-0 in the opening frame, they stormed back with three runs and never looked back….

Every player had at least one hit, however the big hit came off the bat of BRAD GALLOP, as he hit a gapper that found its’ way to the fence for a grand slam…..the soon to be University of Cincinnati freshman came up with the bases loaded again, however his line drive was caught…..

The game ball was presented to JEFF “LITTLE FINK” FINKELSTEIN, but he flipped it to GALLOP in a nice tribute saying, “I’ve got enough game balls in my great career and don’t need anymore. I thought Brad deserved it. I think he’ll get quite a few more game balls before he calls it a career.”

Also of note, MICHAEL KAHAN broke out of his batting slump with three hits and later explained, “All the great ones have slumps. I was expecting to get some hits this evening. I felt it in the air.”

One strange play of note happened after the game was out of reach…..the bases were loaded with two outs and BOB PELBERG was the runner on third base when a grounder was hit foul down the third base line, he fielded it before it went past the base and was called for interference……third out……

JIMMY LEFTON pitched another stellar game, but was in a mess in one inning, however the wily veteran reached back for some magic and got out of a bases loaded situation……

“I couldn’t find the strike zone and lost it for a bit, but was able to get my act together. I didn’t want ROGER (ROSENTHAL) yelling at me so I had to get the out to shut him up,” LEFTON said afterwards…….

In a game that had a lot of offense, but little defense, TEAM KAMRASS got back in the winning column……

Every player contributed with timely hitting, but the highlight of the game was DAVID “DANCING WITH THE STARS” SOLOMON hitting a monster home run that went at least ten feet beyond the fence…..it was the first of his illustrious career……..

EDITOR’S NOTE…..at press time, SOLOMON was to be drug tested……….

ADAM “VOTTOMATIC” CRONSTEIN added an inside the park park home run when he successfully jumped over the catcher to tag home plate……

BEN “BB” BARNETT fueled a five run two out rally with a key hit as well……

JASON “THE MAD HUNGARIAN” FAUST kept the team in the game through some early defensive struggles with strong pitching, before the bats woke up just in time…..

The captains placed a “friendly” dinner wager prior to the start of the game…..”I’m pleased to report that STUART (SOLOMON) was a man of his word, ” winning captain MICAH KAMRASS said later that night. “I love winning and I love eating. When winning leads to a free meal, there’s just nothing better.”

EDITOR’S NOTE…..NO word on what eatery, KAMRASS was treated to and how much he ordered…..

Of note, in each of the last two games, TEAM KAMRASS has had a player hit his first home run over the fence…..”My fearless prediction is that streak will continue next week against TEAM TAYLOR SCHWARTZ,” KAMRASS stated afterwards……..

GAME RECAPS…PART 2……

Grefer     9
Brafman 3

by marc brafman……

On a hot night, TEAM GREFER and Mike Gray cooled off TEAM BRAFMAN’S bats last night beating them 9-3……..
“Tonight was a typical JCC game Brafman said post game,  “We hit the ball on the nose in multiple innings only to see MARK TENENHOLTZ, KYLE GREFER or sub MIKE ROTHSTEIN make the plays. And to their credit they, to quote Wee Willie Keeler, “hit the ball where we ain’t” most of the game. (the lone exception being a mammoth homer by TENENHOLTZ)
“While the score doesn’t show it, we never quit in this game,” Brafman said. “Down 9-0 in the bottom of the 6th and with the 10-run rule hanging over their heads, we buckled down and kept the 10th run off the board which gave us a chance to hit one more time. While the 7th inning rally ended after only a couple of runs I really loved the spirit we showed in keeping the game going. That is what Team Brafman is made of and why I love playing with my guys.”
On offense, Team Brafman was led by BOB “SUNSET” FELDMAN, MARC BRAFMAN and RYAN “THE HEBREW HAMMER” BAUM who all had hits and drove in the runs…….
On defense ERIC “THE MOUTH OF THE MIDWEST” GRUEN, PAT “SUNSHINE” FELDMAN, BRAD “THE HYMAN RAIN DELAY” WAGNER, RANDY “TEX” BROYLES AND AARON “STRAIGHT OUTTA” COMPTON all made plays to keep the game close. A big thumbs up to BAUM who not only caught a great game but made two very nice plays in the field.
A final note after getting some base running “tips” from Yasiel Puig before a recent Reds game ZACH “ZZ TOP” ZAKEM will now be known as “The Wild Horse” he was thrown out by 10 feet last night at 3rd base, but we love the effort, Zach, and you made Puig proud………
League notes:
While the awards banquet is a few months away, JCC Rookie Bryce Anslinger is the runaway leader in the clubhouse for best dressed rookie. Last night he was rocking what only can be described as the Jack Clompus Del Boca Vista summer look.
Remember the one year when Brady Anderson hit like 100 homers for the O’s? Whatever tips he gave to David “D-Sol” Solomon in the off season must have paid off as he continues to crush the ball including a homer over the fence last night.
I have it on good authority that while most of us that went to Camp Wildbrook parent day yesterday engaged in t-ball or flag football, gaga or swimming, Greg Leader spent most of his day making lanyards and showing off his tin-can cooking skills. If you are in the market for a key chain lanyard, Greg is your guy.
Finally, we all know that ROGER ROSENTHAL only roots for winners as the front runner that he is. He was on his feet singing God Bless America while watching Cincy native and fellow Wisconsin alumnus Rose LaVelle score the 2nd goal in the World Cup win on Sunday. Roger is already taking orders for the new LaVelle bobblehead he plans to produce which shows LaVelle scoring the goal while eating Skyline and a big piece of Wisconsin cheese. Said ROSENTHAL at the Silver Spring House last night “I not only feel it’s my duty as an American to make this bobblehead but since I only root for Winners (the Harlem Globetrotters, Gravedigger the Monster truck, Joey Chestnut, that guy on Jeopardy that won all the games in a row,)   I know a winner when I see it. ROGER will be taking orders for his LaVelle bobbleheads for the remainder of the season.

MVP honors go to BIG BLUE MARK TENENHOLTZ who had a laser home run over the fence, a great diving catch and ended the game throwing out a runner at third base….

MIKE GRAY pitched a fantastic game with a shutout going into the final frame…..

Other notables were MICHAEL MARGOLIS catching the defense off guard with a delayed steal….ERIC ZEID with some key catches in RF and rookie BRYCE ANSLINGER with a couple of timely hits…….

IN THE BETTER LATE THAN NEVER DEPT…….

brafman 12
kamrass  7

by marc brafman…….

TEAM BRAFMAN got revenge on TEAM KAMRASS  from a first half loss and it was a two out rally in the second inning that set the tone…….

The rally started with JERRY “DOC” KIRZNER’S single and steal…..that’s right, a steal of second base that got the team going….”I was speaking with SCOTT “DIRE” WOLF before the game and he was sharing his base running tips and when the ball went into the dirt, I knew I could get to second base,” KIRZNER said afterwards…..

With two outs, BRAD “THE HUMAN RAIN DELAY” WAGNER doubled to right, RANDY “TEX” BROYLES singled and AARON “STRAIGHT OUTTA” COMPTON singled setting up the table for PAT “SUNSHINE” FELDMAN, with his cheering section in attendance, and a three run home run….

After a MARC BRAFMAN single that went all of five feet up the third base line, RYAN “THE HEBREW HAMMER” BAUM continued his outstanding hitting with a triple to left….BOB “SUNSET” FELDMAN singled him in as the team batted a round…..

“What a great all around hitting display for our team. We got hits from all up and down the line-up and that was the difference tonight,” BRAFMAN said afterwards……..

No TEAM BRAFMAN game would be complete without some outstanding defense and once again, it was the elder FELDMAN making numerous big plays at 1B to keep TEAM KAMRASS off the bases…..ERIC “THE MOUTH OF THE MIDWEST” GRUEN and HOWARD “HEY I’M BACK” GOLDWASSER also contributed in the field…..

LEAGUE NOTES……..

Congrats to former perennial JCC all-star BILLY KAHN for becoming the new owner of Weil Funeral Home…..

Not sure if you saw this, but former JCC all-star MIKE YOUKILIS has a son who you might have heard of, KEVIN…..since he retired from major league baseball, has opened up a brewery in California and is doing well…..one day when we take a JCC road trip, we can go there……

Also, in the the sure that you guys know this department….TODD WASSERMAN told me post game that he attended Moeller High School with Cincinnati Reds Hall Of Famer Barry Larkin and taught him all he knows about baseball….BIG props for getting him into the Hall Of Fame!!!!!

How many times have we all yelled “heads up” at the field only for the ball to land ten feet from the nearest person?…..that message did not reach ERIC “THE MOUTH OF THE MIDWEST” GRUEN who took a line drive shot off his arm from ADAM CRONSTEIN in batting practice…..he said postgame while icing his arm, “I never knew he was batting.”

Speaking of CRONSTEIN, a shoutout to him for hitting a three run home run off the foul pole…..that might be a first as it rivaled CARLTON FISK in the 1975 World Series…….

If you happen to go to the Silver Spring House post game and see STEVE “EPPY” EPPSTEIN buying platefuls of wing, don’t order the broccoli around my son, JACOB…..EPPY who was nice as always to order wings for everyone had his broccoli stolen from his plate by my son who couldn’t have cared less for the wings sitting in front of him…..is mother is very proud!

And finally,  ROGER “X-MAN” ROSENTHAL was very disappointed that he couldn’t trade two MATT LATOS’s, three WINNIE THE POOH’s and his very own game used “Friends o Clyde” jersey to his supplier for one JERRY SEINFELD bobblehead, the New York Mets gave out over the weekend….”You know I was on the field the day that George ran over BETTE MIDDLER and you would think that my jersey from that day would have won over my guy BOB SACKAMONO in New York, but BOB said he already to KENNY BANIA’s jersey from the same game and it was GOLD so he told me no. I hope to get the DAVID PUDDY DEVILS one later this year,” a dejected ROSENTHAL said…….

EDITORS NOTE…..I hope you understand this last part as I never watched Seinfeld, but was told by Mr. Roll Tide Roll, that if you watched the show, you know what all this means…………

RECAPS OF GAMES………….

brafman 12
kamrass   5

by micah kamrass……

Three important notes to report from this game……

1. ADAM “VOTTOMATIC” CRONSTEIN hit a home run off the foul pole in right field……his first ever in his star studded JCC career……

2. DAVID “DANCING WITH THE STARS” SOLOMON caught a pop up bunt with his bare hand….

3. While playing first base, BOB FELDMAN for the opposing TEAM BRAFMAN, reported to the umpire that a runner he called out was indeed safe, causing the man in blue to reverse the call…..consider this TEAM KAMRASS’ nomination for the sportsmanship award……..

groh      10
solomon 5

by ken groh…………..

TEAM GROH started off hot as the first five hitters singled and a sac fly wrapped up a three run opening inning…..

GRIFF HARRIS and SCOTT BERGE collected their second hits to start the third inning and they scored on a triple by GROH who later scored on a hit by RYAN SMALL…….

In the fourth inning, TODD WASSERMAN singled and scored on a MARC SIMONS rbi grounder to make it 7-0 heading to the bottom of the inning…..TYLER WOLF hit a two run home run driving in DAN GILBERT to cut the lead to 7-3……

In the fifth inning, the victors answered with a two out rally as DAVID WERTHEIM hit a home run followed by a GROH single, a SMALL triple and a JIM BECKETT single that extended the lead to 10-3 which held up until the bottom of the seventh frame…..

BRANDON WOLF, who had two hits and GIG FRANKLIN, who had three hits and threw out a potential base stealer, started the rally and made things interesting as they loaded the bases after scoring two runs to make it 10-5, but held on for the victory…..

Great defensive plays by STU SOLOMON and his over the shoulder catch with the bases loaded and as always slick fielding WES WOLF at SS…..

HARRIS gunned a runner out at third base and BERGE and WASSERMAN made great plays at their respective positions….and DAVID WEIL called a great game behind the plate as TEAM GROH won their third straight game…….

TEAM LEADER won its’ fifth game in a row in a game that saw brilliant pitching by both STEVE EPPSTEIN, walking only one batter and JAMEY KURTZER, not walking anyone…..
