GAME RECAPS FROM AUGUST 15…….

first in……

reported by ROGER ROSENTHAL

LEFTON 12     HIUDT 10 (8 innings)……

In a game that looked like you could have been a rout by HIUDT, LEFTON turned the tables by

fighting back by scoring two runs in the 7th inning and two in the 8th inning to notch the victory….

It was the common saying, a total team effort, but kudos go out to ALEX LEFTON, who suffered an

injury in a play at the plate, with five RBI’s, father JIMMY LEFTON with some key hits, RICK

LEFTON, playing at about 50% due to a minor injury (whatever that means), with a couple of key

base knocks, sub JACK COHEN with some solid defense in LCF and a couple of huge hits, MIKE

KAHAN with some stellar defense in LF and a couple of huge hits which included the hit that

spurred the two runs in the 8th inning and a home run in which while crossing home plate got hit in

the head……hope he is OK!!!!!

MIKE ROTHSTEIN settled down on the mound after a rough start and produced on the offensive

side as usual…..DAVID SOLOMON was solid behind the plate and had a couple of singles…..and

finally, super sub TANNER HARRIS, playing on his birthday, had a few putouts in RF and a hit and

looks like he’s going to be someone to reckon with in the future…..WATCH OUT DEE HARRIS and

GRIFF HARRIS!!!!!!!!

DAVID WERTHEIM played in possibly his last game for the year as he’s off to that school in the

middle of the state and has had a remarkable year playing wherever needed…..LCF or SS….

ROGER ROSENTHAL continued his horrid offensive slump….it’s gotten so bad that he might hire a

voodoo doctor to break the spell……”I suck,” he simply said after his 0 for 4……..

reported by MARC BRAFMAN

“It was a tough night for us as we got taken behind the wood shed. Sometimes you’re on your game

and sometimes you get your butt kicked. Unfortunately for us tonight STU (SOLOMON) and his

team beat us every way a team could beat you,” MARC BRAFMAN said after the rout.

The offense was led by JOEL “THE WRATH OF” KAHN with two hits, DAVE “THE MINISTER

OF FUN” COHEN who continues his own personal Fountain Of Youth Tour and THE MOUTH OF

THE MIDWEST ERIC GRUEN…..

Defensively, JEREMY “HAMILTON” FOGEL should have put the Golden Glove award (BEST

DEFENSIVE PLAYER) to rest with catch after catch in the gap and RILEY “THE BIG MAN”

ABLE and COHEN also made a couple of nice plays……

JASON “THE MAD HUNGARIAN” FAUST lived up to his name by storming around the mound

during the game and managing a first in JCC softball league play by getting tossed out of a game he

wasn’t even playing in.

“I don’t understand why I got thrown out. I was just pointing out that the ump missed a call. What did

I do wrong?,” FAUST said later.

On a side note….the team would like to send out a BIG THANK YOU to “THE KID” GARY ASKIN

for his outstanding catching and hitting the last three weeks subbing for MIKE “THE FLASH”

CREEMER and thanks to SCOTT “WHY CAN’T WE BE” FRIEND(s) for subbing……..

On a final note, “We look forward to the playoffs and forgetting abut the game tonight. We’ll be back

on track next week.” BRAFMAN said.

GREFER 11    GROH 10

In a thrilling back and forth game, everyone contributed in the second half clinching victory…..

MIKE GRAY pitched a strong game and played through a nasty collision at home plate….BEN

BARNETT had a great catch in RF early in the game and MARK “WILDER” FRANKLIN hit a

triple to the LF fence….

The HARRIS BOYS, son GRIFF, a MVP candidate, and father DEE were the stars of the game as

GRIFF ran down everything in the outfield and a hit a home run over the LF fence…..

The game came down to the bottom of the 7th inning as GREFER needed two runs to tie…….JEFF

FINKELSTEIN got it started with a base hit and both sub BRANDON GUTTMAN and GRIFF

followed with hits of their own….now down one run, DANNY GREFER intentionally walked to  load

the bases, setting up the elder HARRIS to crush a line drive up the middle to score two runs and get

the win…….a celebration ensued to cap off the second half championship…..

It should also be noted that GROH played with only nine players……

“Hats off to TEAM GROH who played a great game,” KYLE GREFER said later.

reported by KEN GROH…….

GROH 17         HIUDT 10

“Are you ready for some Sunday (morning) football?, ” asked captain KEN GROH as they

defeated TEAM HIUDT by a touchdown plus the PAT…..

Eight players had multi-hit games, but did something that could be a first in JCC history, JAMES

SWAN, ADAM CRONSTEIN, TYLER STANSBURY and PAT FELDMAN hit consecutive home

runs in the same inning……

In addition, FELDMAN went 4 for 4 with four RBI’s, SWAN went 4 for 4

with a triple and four runs scored and STANSBURY had another home run had three runs scored.

Also contributing were RYAN BAUM and DAVID WEIL with doubles….

“I hope the offense continues against a red hot TEAM GREFER in the final game of the regular

season, ” GROH said post game…..

reported by MARC BRAFMAN……..

BRAFMAN 11 SCHWARTZ 10

“I give Howie’s team a lot of credit as they battled all game. Being down a man (ZACH SWADNER

went down with an undetermined injury), they really played well. I’m just glad we didn’t let the game

slip away,” a very relieved BRAFMAN said post game……

Offensively, they were led by BRAFMAN, JOEL “THE WRATH OF” KAHN, “THE MOUTH OF

THE MIDWEST” ERIC GRUEN, BEN “B-ROD” RODRIGUEZ, who showed off his speed with a

great bunt and DAVE “THE MINISTER OF FUN” COHEN, who had a couple of hits, but most

importantly his hustle scored the winning run from second base.

“Ever since Aerosmith has announced their retirement from touring it reminds me that if Stephen

Tyler can sing Dude Looks Like A Lady with such force, I can still bust my butt around 3rd base. So

even though I needed oxygen scoring from 2nd base, it was worth it to get the win,” COHEN

commented afterwards.

It wouldn’t be a BRAFMAN game without the usual stellar defense from JEREMY “HAMILTON”

FOGEL in LCF, sub GARY “THE KID” ASKIN and JEREMY “WE’VE GOT THE MEATS”

CANTOR, who for the second game in a row turned a 6-4-3 double play and also made a couple of

plays in the field that turned out to be big.

“Being Canadian, I try and field like my favorite goaltender, Gump Worsley and just keep my body

and glove down. When I close my eyes, I pretend I’m in Maple Leaf Gardens and it makes it easier

for me to stop the ball,” CANTOR said later.

As usual, JASON “THE MAD HUNGARIAN” FAUST kept the team in the game for the most part.

“Before the game, GARY (ASKIN) offered me some good advice to just take the ball and throw it

and throw strikes because home plate doesn’t move. That made a lot of sense to me and that is what I

tried to do,” FAUST said.

On a side note, BRAFMAN would like to thank JONATHAN “DOC” SUSAN for subbing and wish

him an 0-4 this Wednesday when we play them (SOLOMON)……….

third to report in………

reported by GREG LEADER……..

LEADER 14     LEFTON 3  (5 innings)

RANDY BROYLES led the way with a strong pitching performance……four K’s, including one on

the final out to close out the shortened game…..

Offensive standouts were RAFI GOLDFARB, 3 for 3, sub STU WEINSTEIN, two doubles and

ALEX KRAUS who also had a solid game at 2B……

First to report in……..

by ROGER ROSENTHAL

LEFTON 12    SOLOMON 10 (8 INNINGS)

In a game that went down to the wire, LEFTON found a way to win as they scored two runs in the

top of the 8th inning and withstood a rally in the bottom of the inning to produce the victory….

A total team effort for sure, but The BIG hit came off the bat of ALEX LEFTON as he hit a two-run

double to drive in the winning runs…..

The decisive inning started with MIKE KAHAN walking, going to second base on a long fly out by

MIKE ROTHSTEIN and an intentional walk to JIMMY LEFTON…..that set the stage for the younger

LEFTON who drilled a double to RCF to plate the runs….

In the bottom of the inning, SOLOMON got the tying runs on base, but couldn’t produce a hit to tie or

perhaps win the game…..

Other contributors were DAVID “LITTLE JAVY” WERTHEIM with a triple and home run and

played a flawless 3B……DAVID SOLOMON came out of his slump with a huge two out two run

single…..SUB JACK COHEN had a home run and played a solid LCF……AARON KAPLAN got two

key walks…..ROTHSTEIN and BRAD GALLOP, back from vacation, each had hits as well…..

EDDIE GALLOP had a nice game at 1B as did KAHAN in LF, making a nice running catch early in

the game…..RICK LEFTON, who got hurt at the end of the game (NO WORD AT PRESS TIME),

got a key hit, ROGER ROSENTHAL, still in a prolonged hitting slump, did make the final

putout on a close force play at 2B and finally, JIMMY LEFTON pitched in and out of jams a lot, but

got the key out when needed…..

Second to report in………

by MARC BRAFMAN

BRAFMAN 13    GROH 7

After being down 6-0 in the top of the first inning, the victors roared back to score nine in the bottom

of the inning……the two big blows were by JOEL “THE WRATH OF” KAHN with a two run double

and JEREMY “HAMILTON” FOGEL with a three run home run that put them up for good….other

big hits were provided by sub DANNY GREFER, BEN “B-ROD” RODRIGUEZ, JEREMY “WE’VE

GOT THE MEATS” CANTOR and sub GARY “THE KID” ASKIN……

“I’ve been robbed so many times this year, I was happy that I finally got a hold of one”, a happy

FOGEL said afterwards. “Plus my mom was at the game and I always want to play well in front of

her.”

DAVE “THE MINISTER OF FUN” COHEN who once again had a couple of hits said this about sub

ASKIN, “I thought that since I announced my retirement similar to BARBARA STREISAND in

2016 that I would be the best of the older guys on this team, but seeing GARY come off the couch

and play as well as he did, it’ll inspire me to keep going for another ten years similar to BABS.”

On the defensive side, RILEY “THE BIG MAN” ABLE, B-ROD, CANTOR and MARC BRAFMAN

all made plays including a 6-4-3 double play and a throw out from ASKIN TO BRAFMAN, however

the PLAY OF THE GAME was JASON “THE MAD HUNGARIAN” FAUST fielding a bunt off the

bat of speedy JAMES SWAN and throwing him out at first base to end an inning……

FAUST continued his outstanding pitching as he surrendered but one run after the opening frame.

“It’s taking me all season, but I’ve finally figured out what I need to do…..stop thinking and just pitch

because me thinking only hurts the ball club”, he stated afterwards.

ON A SIDE NOTE….. the team (and the league) would like to wish LEON “THE BULL”

SESERMAN a speedy recovery from a concussion suffered in last week’s game.

When reached for a comment, SESERMAN went out of his way to thank his roommate TAYLOR

SCHWARTZ for nursing him back to health.

“With my mom in Colorado, TAYLOR has brought me all my meals in bed, he’s even cut the crust off

the PB&J just how I like it and made sure to taste my soup to make sure it’s not too hot. My head

can’t handle hot things at the moment.”………….HOW SWEET!!!!!!!!!(EDITOR’S NOTE)

next to report in…….

by GREGG HARRIS

HIUDT carried out the motto “Defense wins championships” in full force as they played virtually an

error free game behind the strong pitching from JAMIE KIRTZER, who held LEADER to but four

runs……the infield turned two double plays with a strong defensive performance from 3B GREGG

HARRIS….DANIEL HIUDT ran down some fly balls in the outfield as did COREY NORRIS and

sub JEFF FINKELSTEIN and BRUCE YOUNGER made a tremendous clutch catch in RF…..

RICK TENNEHOLTZ, OREN SCHMOEL and PHIL GANSON also had solid performances in the

field….

Offensively, MIKE “THE BADGER” MARGOLIS once again shocked a a shallow outfield by hitting

a shot of deep LF for a triple….DANIEL HIUDT continued his hot hitting….

Sub JACOB KOTZIN (Scott’s son) did a fantastic job filling the large shoes left by JEFF

WEISBROT, who is out with a season ending injury…..he shot one to deep CF and played a solid

SS…..

The never say die attitude, in spite of injuries to captain ZAC HIUDT and WEISBROT, has kept

them in close running for a decent playoff run….

“If we play this tight in the field, our possibilities are limitless. The team is still awaiting for the

slumping and sleeping beat from me to wake up to match my offensive prowess from my first two

years in the league,” HARRIS said afterwards.
