We are sad to report that longtime JCC volunteer WILLIE FINKELMAN passed away earlier today…..for those who didn’t know him, Willie was a fixture at softball and basketball games as the official scorekeeper and never missed a beat…..he will be missed…….

CONGRATS TO TEAM HIUDT…….TOURNAMENT CHAMPS!!!!!!
In a game that went back and forth, in the end, #3 HIUDT defeated #1 WEISSER, 14-11, to capture the tournament…..
Big hits for the victors came off the bats of rookie ERIC GRUEN (home run, triple), BRANDON GUTTMAN (home run) and TAYLOR SCHWARTZ (three run triple)……..
It was a successful season for both teams as WEISSER won both halves and ended up an impressive 17-2 overall in winning the regular season title, while HIUDT got hot in the post season to capture the tournament title…..
The season is over for most players, but one game is still to be played…….the ALL-STAR GAME, scheduled for Sunday September 18 at 6:30 p.m. at REDS URBAN YOUTH ACADEMY AT ROSELAWN PARK where the all-stars will be captained by the combinations of RON ROSE/STEVE EPPSTEIN for one team and RICK LEFTON/ROGER ROSENTHAL for the other.
Complimentary food and beverages will be served and a good time is expected for all……..

FINALS ARE SET………#1 SEED WEISSER vs. #3 SEED HIUDT……SEPTEMBER 7 at 6 P.M…..
Teams HIUDT and WEISSER both advanced to the finals of the tournament with victories in different fashion…..
In a lightning fast game, WEISSER defeated WEISBROT, 9-1, as captain MARK WEISSER pitched a masterful game and had a solid defense behind him once again……the victors jumped out to a 3-0 in the opening frame thanks to a two out single by TYLER WOLF and a two run home run by BRAD WAGNER…..they extended the lead later while WEISBROT never could get their offensive game going……
In the other semi-final game, HIUDT trailed 6-2 in the middle innings only to score six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, in a come from behind 8-6 victory over SCHWARTZ, thanks in a large part to JUSTIN BERG’S grand slam…..it was made sweeter in the fact that not only was his father, ex-softballer JOHN BERG was in the stands, but his grandmother as well……
SCHWARTZ threatened in both the sixth and seventh innings, but BARRY KAPLAN was able to hold them scoreless…..
This sets up a finals between WEISSER and HIUDT, the only team to beat WEISSER all year….it was also announced shortly after the games that MICHAEL ROTHSTEIN will sub for WES WOLF who is leaving on a month long trip overseas…..talk about BIG shoes to fill!!!!!
